There are enough wildlife and nature photographer's (not to mention sports) out there to keep the superzoom niche filled for the foreseeable future. We might even see a long zoom with a 1.7 or 1 inch sensor. That would be something to behold!

Except for wildlife and birds...with wildlife and birds, especially if you want to shoot from distances which leave the animals undisturbed, there is never enough reach...though 1200-1440mm is getting there :)
