I don't know. I hope not. Worse case scenario I can send it to Sigma for adjustment if it becomes necessary in the future. It is too late to exchange it and it's currently working well with the MFA...

I used to think the quality issues were a myth, until I bought a Sigma 50 about a month ago.
It back focuses, but with a MFA of +18, the issue clears up and the lens performs well. I was initially...

Thanks for all the comments.Well I got the 5D III, and it was still front-focussing. I tried Focal, and it has given me a MFA of +18. It seems a bit worrisome that it is right on the edge of the...

I just bought a new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 lens, and I am in the middle of transitioning from an original 5D to a 5D III.
I've owned about 15-20 lenses or so for Canon bodies (5D, 20D) and never had any...

"Romanesque church courtyard"? Isn't that Stanford campus? :-)Nice images

That's because support staff haven't been trained on an unannouced lens. It should be announced sometime in 2013. Hopefull early in the year rather than later! Only then will the answer change.

Just curious why you haven't bought a 35L before this (if you don't mind expanding on your thoughts some more - thanks)

They didn't test focus tracking. I hope one or more of the 'formal reviewers' does this

FYI - a post from a person with a NEX-5R saying focus tracking works on moving children!http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/post/50198065

Thank you - good to hear. I've been poring over user and pro reviews and there has been very little discussion thus far on the utility of hybrid focussing for focus tracking.

When I reply with quote, my browser freezes for a couple of minutes. This is extremely irritating. I'm not a prolific poster, but I have abandoned several intended posts since the re-design. Maybe...

Ah, but Viking says Aperture Value is the inverse of Aperture and the manual referred to Aperture Value! Are we confused yet? ;-)

The text from the manual says "PDAF is unavailable when aperture value is greater than F6.3" So based on what you're saying, it means that it is unavailable when aperture is F7-13+, right?I.e. it...

Thank you for quoting all this.Point 5 seems ambiguous to me. The actual text says PDAF is unavailable when aperture value is greater than F6.3. You interpret that as when the aperture size is...

Hmmm. These forums (and others) are full of fine photos from people using prime lenses on small mirrorless cameras. I would expect the folks that Sony invited to come up with more inspired images...

I'm an enthusiast, not a pro, but if I sell off the Canon gear I've accumulated over the last 8 years I can fund the RX1 and NEX-6.Most of the time I will carry one camera, but occasionally both. I...

It may also have to do with the lens design. If on-sensor PDAF required a lens design compromise they could have rejected it for that reason (I'm just guessing due to the compatibility issues that...

I was hoping we'd see an element of magic to the better photos like what's possible with the Canon 35L for example. So far, the examples have been largely flat. That might be becuase they've been...

I've toyed with the idea of combining it with a NEX-6 with the 55-210mm and next year's 'mid telephoto prime' from the sony lense roadmap.
Alternatively RX1, plus my 5Dc, 135L, Tamron 70-300...
