Actually,  my favorite cameras for B&W shooting are Sigmas full color Foveons.  Files have lots of latitude for B&W conversions and incredible microcontrast which is even more important for B&Ws...

I think this whole system of picture modes hasn't changed since Olympus introduced it several years ago. So the settings are still incremental, not absolute. Though I would definitely prefer...

Well, actually the medium format professionals prefered sticking to pixel-counting and moved up to 80+ MP digibacks. I hardly think 2 MP would be too compelling for their uses... ;)
