Replied in Full Frame Pentax
That would be very uncharacteristic of Pentax. They're the only camera maker to retain lens compatibility all the way back to their oldest lenses.
I think it more likely that they would test the...

Exactly what I was going to say!

Replied in ~Angry~ Hungry Birds ( smc Pentax A* 300mm )
The first one isn't exactly blown, it just suffers from a lack of contrast. A little PP would fix it right up.
You're lucky to get those birds to pose so nicely for you!

Replied in Smith Rock in central Oregon
That would explain why your white balance is so far off then, the picture is far too golden!
Well done. Nice capture of a beautiful scene in some magic sunlight.

Replied in Leo, a few more
Leo, you always have the kindest words for everyone. I know mine are not the best pictures in the thread, and in fact your Hosta to start it off was just wonderful. Here are a few more from the...

Replied in Favourite Flowers, May 2012
It's been a few months since I had anything to show. Here's a few wildflowers from this weekend. All with the K-7 and FA 50/2.8...

Replied in Patents and disclosures...
Unfortunately I'm sure the patent office doesn't scan this forum looking for prior art, so someone might still get granted a patent. Once granted it becomes up to you to prove it invalid, which is...

Replied in Vibrate the sensor...
I like that idea! Think anybody's got a patent on it?
The best part is that you can put it under software control. Turn it on when you think you need it, turn it off when you know you don't.

Created thread Pentax on cover of Popular Photography
Happened to be in the library today, and glanced at the May issue of Popular Photography. There was a picture of a camera covered in mud - so well covered that you couldn't identify it. However the...

Replied in The new KING of high ISO is here.
It's quite possible. RAW conversion is not a slam dunk, there's a lot of ways to do the conversion and all of them rely on heavy math plus a lot of finesse. Same with NR techniques. To call it...

Replied in The new KING of high ISO is here.
Wow! The comparison at ISO 12800 for RAW are very enlightening. It even kills the K-5! Even at ISO 6400, the K-01 is the only one to show the texture in the coin background.

Replied in Gambling [1 pic]
Your eye is drawn to the one chip that gives the context for the whole picture. Perfect, I'd say.

Created thread My new DA-15
When I discovered the recent price increases this lens was at the top of my wish list. I found one still at the old price and I bought it without hesitation. Moving_comfort, I hope Pentax is paying...

Replied in And Ricoh has doubled engineering staff at Pentax
Which means we can expect more design inconsistencies and bugs as the new guys settle in.
Sorry for being so pessimistic.

Replied in Rebates stink
I've been burned by rebates before. I've pretty much written them off, and they aren't going to influence my buying decision the way the honchos think.
The only exception are instant rebates,...

Replied in You said it yourself
I too would rather spend 5-10% more for a local shop. Unfortunately we can see from the recent price increases that the figure is more like 35-50% more, and that's just too much.

Replied in Just the opposite, the retailers want short warrantees
The highest profit item a store offers is the extended warranty. How can they sell them if the stuff already has a decent warranty from the manufacturer?
I wish I were just being cynical, but I...
