On the Canon side this is available via Magic Lantern.

I think you might miss the 8fps.

The 7D has a limited set of advantages over the 70D including:
8fps vs 7
100% OVF vs 98%
Tougher body
mini-joystick and a few extra external controls
5 AF modes vs 3
In every other way the 70D...

STMs do not focus fast. They are designed to do so for a more pleasing focus pull effect. Also, among the STM lenses, the 40mm is not the snappiest; I suspect even the 18-135 kit lens would...

My thoughts exactly. It's why I've decided against both the 7D and D7100. It seems highly unlikely either line will feature a swivel screen any time soon. Touchscreen maybe, but we might witness...

Ironically, that's just what a lot of politicians really need. A good cattle prod up the wazoo. :-P

Neither manufacturer got it quite right overall imo. Canon's menu is easier to navigate but it's not always easy to tell what a particular function does exactly without referring to the manual (and...

I prefer the top dial as it keeps my hand in a better shooting position. it's in keeping with the divergent philosophies they use for general UI.
I find Canon's UI, esp. the menu system, more...

AF is performed with the lens wide-open, regardless of your selected aperture. An f2.8 lens focuses at f2.8 even if you are shooting at f8 thus enabling the higher precision AF.

Thanks for sharing. I'm not much into video myself so how would you rate it on a purely stills basis? e.g. how fast does it focus through the viewfinder and what's the IQ like, esp. zoomed in?

I don't do a ton of street photography but have never had anyone object. You're more likely to get posing than objections in my, admittedly limited, experience. Do not under-estimate the power of a...

Thanks. I love my 55-250 too. Especially since I got the Raynox DCR-150 close up lens giving me a decent telephoto zoom and a 1.6x macro for less than $500. Just a touch of gear lust I guess. The...

Couldn't find a full-frame test but this might be helpful:...

Woah... I hadn't thought of comparing it against higher grade glass, just the old 55-250 which I have. Apart from a little more vignetting and corner aberrations, it certainly compares favourably...

Is it just me or do those MTFs for the new lens look mighty encouraging? It appears to be sharp wide open at both ends with...

If you switch to print/web views then you see a slight but undeniable edge to the Nikon. (more MP = smaller noise artefacts) That said, it's not even half a stop difference. Even DXO mark quotes a...

I've been in the same boat recently and boiled it down to the following basic equation
Great IQ at extra cost (any full frame); or
OK IQ with better user-friendliness (70D)
For the time being...

Do you believe that the 7D is a single function camera? It can shoot pretty much anything you point it at, not just birds in flight/sports. Yes, those are its strong suites but I'm sure it does...

If you're OK with a fully manual lens you can get this really sharp fisheye from Rokinon. It's also uniform enough to double as a regular wide...

Agreed. I don't think Canon (or any of the big players) can afford to lose any of the APS-C market segments. There may be lower margins in crop bodies and lenses but I suspect volume more than make...
