The EOS M uses an electronic first curtain and mechanical shutter. I haven't seen anything official from Canon on life expectancy but would assume around 100,000 shots, give or take.

This question comes up a lot, the answer is always the same:
At low ISO's the G10 is still out in front. You can pixel peep G10 RAW images all day long and find little if anything to fault. The G15...

Step 1 on page 89: press the function set button (located in the center of the multi-controller).
-
You'll need to get out of the shallow end of the pool first. Shooting in full Auto mode takes too much control away from the shooter, not a bad thing under certain circumstances. If I'm handing one...

And pages 212 through 215 will provide tables showing what settings are available for various shooting modes.

Not true. My PowerShot S5 IS was made in China. My original Digital Rebel/300D was made in Taiwan. But my EOS M, 40D, 7D, G10's and G15 were made in Japan.

DPR's preview of the G16 claims the sensor is the same one used in the G15, giving all the Digic 6 credit for image quality improvements.

Hard to say, mine was repaired but ended up getting stuck again after sitting around unused for a year. I was always fond of my S2, it almost never took a bad picture.

Most likely the shutter is stuck in the closed position. Turn the camera on, zoom to full telephoto, look into the lens under good lighting, trigger the shutter, my guess is you'll see the shutter...

Commander might be a Nikon term, but I just wanted to make the distinction between master and wireless controller. I bought the 90EX for the wireless controller functionality but incorrectly...
-
The 90EX will only function as a wireless commander, and not as the master in the master/slave configuration. Not sure if that was clear from reading your post.
Just checked B&H, it looks like the...

The EF-M lenses use what's referred to as "focus by wire", turning the focus ring sends an electrical signal to the AF motor which causes the focus to move depending on the direction the focusing...

Okay, you have a different perception of the MILC platform. What percentage of the worldwide market for this platform does that amount too?
Almost every P&S camera has this.
The EOS M shutter is...
-
The people that participate in these forums constitute an extremely small share of the MILC market, probably down around 0.01% of total sales if even that. And it's sales, or lack of, that drive...

Mirror-less in general has not been successful, none of the players in this market segment are pulling in sales figures anywhere close to what would be considered a success.
There are a lot of...

Try setting the camera to the self-timer mode, see page 291 of the manual.

I would think the extra processing to bin the RAW down to that size would actually take more power. And my point was only that the camera does generate JPEG's even when shooting RAW which would...
-
Most, if not all, PowerShot cameras will not shoot RAW in Auto mode. Check the EXIF data for the JPEG images, you'll probably find that the camera was in the Auto mode.
-
Well, all RAW images have an embedded JPEG, not sure how much of a difference it would really make in battery life. The EOS M embeds a full size JPEG in the RAW file, just not sure if it's FINE or...
