We have been doing pro work for years with D300 and D700 with good lenses and no issues. I currently see no reason to change until the next generation of pro cams are available (D400 DX, D750 FX)...

Update both D700 and D300 to latest.
Working fine.

>A true D700 replacement (tough body, old school intuitive/intelligent controls- including old buttons/AF layout) with 21mp to a max 24 mp and 6 to 7fps without grip would sell as crazy!
+1 for sure.

>Have a camera that can offer high speed at a lower price, and with less bulk. (There's no D300 replacement or D700 replacement, and both were hugely popular cameras)

The D600 will probably be replace this year, followed by by replacements of the D800 after the holidays. D4s mid-summer of 2014.
D400 DX anytime now. D300s price has dropped.

or the D750.
I would skip the current crop of FX bodies that suffer from QA issues.

Skip the current crop of FX bodies that suffer from Nikon QA issues. One year has already past. Wait for the D600/D700/D800 replacements.

Good to see Canon finally did the catch-up to Nikon's 200-400 F/4. Competition is good !

Sounds like they are being honest to me.

Skip the current crop of FX bodies. Wait for the D600s, D750, or D400. One year on the current bodies is already gone. Lets see if Nikon fixes their QA problem, if not bye bye.
