Fuji will be issuing a F/W fix for the orb's, as they have announced, so you may not have to live with them for long ;)

I doubt that an f/2 to f/2.8 is possible for that span (24-100mm) but it sure sounds juicy, lol. I'm still looking so I can only hope. One thing is for sure: I'll be selling my 30D soon.
