This looks like a winner for Canon: HIGHLY improved image quality according to the resolution charts, improved weather sealing, lighter than the original 24-70. Can't wait to see some reviews!
I use the 24-70 on my 5D Mark II and I don't mind the lack of IS. I also have a sharp copy with good image quality at all focal lengths.
One question: does the new version extend when zoomed?
PS If I'm not mistaken the launch price is identical to the original 24-70 MSRP price. Can anyone confirm this?
When is the review coming out?
Look at the bokeh and plane separation at full tele and f 5.8 in this shot:http://pliki.optyczne.pl/G1_X_przykl/IMG_0548.JPG

This is good news for those interested in taking portraits at full tele!
The G1X is likely to be the most promising increase in image quality in the G series for a long time. Can't wait for a full review!
What I like:-six times larger sensor compared to the G12-full metal body-better IQ when using higher ISOs-increased exposure compensation
What I hope for:-faster AF than my G11-more DSLR-like images (bokeh, subject separation)
