  • Vivitar is simply a rebrand. It is a actually a Meyer-Optik Görlitz Orestegor 4/300mm: 19 blades Check out my (small) Gallery! http://www.dpreview.com/galleries/355548730/photos/slideshow
  • My guess: Tele Takumar 200mm f3.5
  • Replied in 24mm
I have no personal experience with the lens to say if it does or if it doesn't. But IMHO being concerned about this lens' performance in bright conditions is like being concerned about how a ...
  • Replied in 24mm
Assuming you mean flare: Yeah, because a 18-35mm f1.8 is designed to be used in bright sunshine at f/11, right? This lens is meant to be used wide open (or close to it) for full frame like DOF ...

Big Nebraska Sky: Panorama, cropped square.Sky Plow: Pointed gust front, taken in Hayes County Nebraska.Lone Cottonwood in Tornado Alley: I was racing down this gravel road, wanting to get closer to the base (visible in the far distance) but the sudden appearance of this barely leafing, Cottonwood tree in a suddenly striking light made me screetch to a halt and jump out to grab some quick images. I ran down the road taking more images to get closer to the tree, which appeared too small due to my ultrawide and my distance. This was the (much more pleasing) result. I was later stunned to see how the power lines are highlighted perfectly against the dark inflow band that stretches into the heart of the storm. The explosive convection in the clouds seems to mimic the future shape of the fully leafed-out tree. All-in-all this image reminded me that sometimes we really need to just follow our instincts in snagging a keeper shot.Still Running Against the Wind (color image): I dislike "overcooked" processing, which you might be tempted to label this shot with. It isn't. It really looked like this and this image is very close to the out-of-camera JPEG. Although it looks like a monochrome or unsaturated image, it is "full color". This is what color it was.
  • There is no substitute for Dynamic Range. The K10 has less than 12 EVs of dynamic range at base ISO. The K-30 and K-50 have over 13 EV. (The difference even grows at 200-800 ISO.) The K-5 family ...
  • I'm trying to figure out why you are reacting like I said something about your mom in my post. :-| I apologize for submitting my link and opinion (which, as far as I know, has no influence on ...
  • I've purchased from Adorama many times. They are reputable. However, I think they sometimes have a strategy of "typos" in their offerings. If this one is for real it would be amazing: K-3 + DA50 ...
  • My K-3 arrives on Tuesday. All of the recommendations here are for AF lenses. I'm curious to see what some MF classics can do on it too (lenses like the SMC K 30mm and the Flektogon 2.4/35 and the ...
  • Russ, thanks for sharing. Question: Does the O-GPS AstroTrack functionality work any better on the K-3, as opposed to the K-5. I found the K-5 very hit-n-miss on Precise Calibration which was ...
  • Replied in K3 Envy
Well, I just WON a K-3, grip & FluCard in the PentaxForums photo contest which is one way to do it. But (seriously) I have some good advice for you. Your wife's problem is probably that she ...
  • There should also be a benefit to larger photosites on the sensor (for the same number of megapixels). Keep in mind what Sony has done with their (mirrorless) full frame A7 line: - source: http://p ...
  • Pentax, more than any other camera company has shown a willingness to build backward-compatibility into their DSLRs (APS-C and medium format). I don't see why they would change the mount on a full ...
  • He's already commented in earlier threads. I believe the one new thing left to be revealed is the long (full frame capable, wink-wink, nudge nudge) telephoto zoom. X to 400-something, if memory serves.
  • I'm afraid you really haven't given us enough info to give you a really good answer. Asahi Pentax Takumars came in Super Takumar and Super-Multi-Coated Takumar versions. Sometimes there were ...
  • The clarkevision link contains good information FOR ITS TIME, but has not been updated for many, many years. Scroll down the page and look at the camera/sensor models they are evaluating. Most of ...
  • I took debate. I understand that you can find quotes to support virtually ANY position. The trick to being correct (rather than scoring debate points) is to quote people who know what they are ...
  • Please read photographic engineer (and dpreview user) GordonBGood posts on the subject. You may find it edifying. Here is one such thread, from nearly 4 years ago: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/th ...
  • I'm afraid you have revealed why no one should listen to your opinion (at least on the significance of 12-bit vs 14-bit). Check out my (small) Gallery! ...
  • You can find such statements all over the internet, but they really don't apply to the Sony EXMOR sensors, which may be why Pentax (and other makers using that sensor) decided to make their ...
