On Nikon V1 and J1 - hands-on first impressions news story (245 comments in total)

Interesting that Nikon refers to users of the V1 and J1 as "consumers" and not photographers. Rather off putting.

qwertyasdf: Really beautiful compact!!!!!
But cannot give any credits to fuji....just looks like a camera from the 60s
Hope more dc makers make retro style cameras
Will fuji out a silver version, or a gold limited version...anyone? :P

I guess it all depends on whether it is to take pictures with, or of.

That ugly rubber around the lens looks like it was re-used from a $50 spotting scope or maybe just a cut and fit strip (seam hidden). I suspect the lens is a mock-up, even if the camera is a prototype.

Of course, it could be a weatherproofing feature too.

Marty4650: I think my Panasonic FZ30 was actually larger and heavier than my Olympus E510, and it only had a 12X zoom with a much smaller sensor than 2/3"

If these specs are real (36X zoom, 2/3" sensor, lens starting at f/2.8) then this camera should be HUGE. Unless there has been some breakthrough in physics, this will be a pretty large and heavy camera.

jaykumarr; What's the matter with you, practical or something? ;-)

On Fujifilm announces X10 high-end enthusiast compact news story (279 comments in total)

The evolution of the enthusiasts camera continues. Sensor with 1/3 more area than 1/1.7.

Previous poster is right about not paying $700 for a P&S. OTOH anyone that uses this camera as just a P&S would be missing the point.

On Samyang announces 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC lens news story (73 comments in total)

Putting a 4/3 mount on this lens seems a bit silly. Why a big, heavy, complex and expensive "normal" lens on a 4/3 camera? An f 1.4 24 mm lens for 4/3 can be simpler, lighter, less expensive and perform just as well.

On Pentax Q preview (279 comments in total)

Looks like a fun camera but I have to question how functionally different is it from a myriad of P&Ss with the same sensor size and same zoom range in one lens. Must be the play factor.
