About me:

I'd like to get to the point where I can once again function and work. I can still write well and continue to work on my photographic craft (always a "plus factor" for both), but I don't deal at all well with stress, so I'm having to take things at a pace with which I can accommodate, psychologically.

  • Hmmmm, that' IS considerably heavier (43.866% heavier, to be precise). Of course 809 grams still isn't a really heavy lens, depending upon what one's used to (and again, I'd have to go through the ...
  • I haven't totally checked out/compared its specs, as far as size and weight go. But I DID notice that it uses a 72 mm filter. Considering the DA* 16-50 Pentax lens uses a 77 mm filter, I'm ...
  • Replied in Focal length
I was thinking something along the same lines, Paul. I have the Sigma 50-500, which I haven't really used enough to tell you whether it's "up to snuff" in my opinion, or not. I finally got a ...
  • I thought it was a bit pricey, too, but recently someone asked me about THAT lens vs. the Sigma 18-250 F 3.5-6.3 Macro. I own ONLY the Sigma 18-250, so I can speak ONLY for that lens, which I ...
  • Javowl, Bob! I'm with you about waiting for the reviews! However, I'm not too concerned about them having to be PENTAX shooters. I'm guessing that lens is going to perform about the same for ALL ...
  • Pics look great, Sandglass, and it's my understanding the DA* 200 really IS an outstanding lens, as are all FIVE DA* lenses. In my case, being someone who seems to ALWAYS want "just a little more ...
  • Those are some really nice photos, Jack, but I didn't see any that looked like they were taken indoors -- at least without flash (the one of what looks like an iron worker, or somebody, appears to ...
  • Beautiful, Ned! I'm assuming those were all shot with that $1,300 31 mm Ltd. lens, since every photo was at 31 mm and they all look ASTOUNDING (helps me understand WHY that lens sells for that and ...
  • Replied in INTERESTING!
Perhaps, Eric. Seems to me, though, if that's the case a more accurate sales description would be "previously owned product, but never opened," or "product returned unopened, in original sales ...
  • I already made a post JUST about the Jun Hirakawa loss, Mr. Unexpressivecanvas, but I'll make an exception and reply to you for myself AND Mr. NotSteve on this subject, as well... Again, I ...
  • I REFUSE TO BUY ANYTHING WITH THE HOYA NAME ON IT ANY MORE BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY DID TO PENTAX!!! AND YES, I'M YELLING THIS TIME, BECAUSE I'VE BEEN AS MAD AS HELL AT HOYA FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS, OR ...
  • One other thing to add to this subject... The "WR" designation on almost ALL Pentax DSLRs (only the K-500 and I THINK the K-01 have NOT had it within the past three years or more) DOESN'T MEAN ...
  • I've actually had a couple of "lock-up" issues with my K-5... But over more than 2 years use (haven't used it much since the fall), I didn't think much of it. Both times I was going through a ...
  • Replied in Jim...
Yeah, there was some back-focus on the first one, Ron -- branches behind the heron. But that second one was spot-on sharp-as-a-tack! Thanks for sharing! Jeff
  • Once again, M R, FANTASTIC SHOT! Even better that it showed A FLY meeting its doom! Now if we could only get the spiders to eat ALL the mosquitos!!! :-D Jeff
  • Simply AMAZING photos, Mike... First, before I forget, the daddy longlegs spider actually isn't a spider at all, and although that's its common name, the more "correct name" for it is "a ...
  • Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! Did it TASTE as good as it looks?!?!? :-P Great shot! I can't show it to Tater Tot, though. He'll wanna "go on a hunt" if I do. ;-) Jeff
  • Replied in Onion Flowers
Nice work, Bob! I've grown both onions and garlic before, and it's kinda amazing how pretty their flowers are, considering how stinky the edible part (root) is. Then again, if you smell the flowers ...
  • Whole post is "interesting" when you click the little link (I guess it's provided by Google, in my case, since I'm using Chrome) to translate the page. Here's the first, most relevant part, translated:
  • Who knows, Russell? Last I read here (from someone who's usually a VERY informed source) it was SUPPOSED to be available here in June! But here we are barely five days from the END of June, and ...
