On Sony Alpha 77 II firmware update improves AF speed article (153 comments in total)

I upgraded the firmware and hope it helps in low light. When will Sony upgrade the wifi/NFC App? It's too naive and far behind the one for a7 family. It would be a huge improvement if there is full manual control in wifi/NFC App for a77 M2.

ZWTang: It's a little bit better than RX100 II. This is how Sony squeezes your money. I'm tired of its game. Sony, why not try your best to surprise people and get the market? Do not fool customers. I'm waiting to see how Sony a77 II works as I plan to upgrade my a57. I was very optimistic but now... If it's the same way as RX100 III, I'll go for Olympus/Fuji/Panasonic. Sigh...

I sighed for Sony. It lost many great opportunities in cameras. It released R1 in 2005 and stopped, leaving a huge space for Fuji/Panasonic/Olympus to develop their mirrorless. Sony bought Minolta and try to compete with Canon/Nikon in DSLR, which is a 20th century technology in my mind. We know what happened late. Now Sony back to mirrorless but it's crowed. If Sony (any brand) do not try its best, it'll loss. Sony lost TV, music player business in the past few years, hope it can stay longer in camera since I have STL a57 and many lenses.

Good shot! Did you took it in St. Charles? I took some pictures for my kids in one park just like this.

On Sony announces SLT-A58 20MP mid-level DSLR-style camera article (128 comments in total)

ZWTang: I upgraded from Sony a55 to a57 without hesitate, and I like it. This a58 is not an exciting upgrade at all. No GPS, no faster focus, still 15 point focus... I wish Sony could focus on improving 16M sensor and provide clear picture at high iso instead of another "me too" 20M sensor. I hope I'm wrong.

The key feature of STL system is the focus speed and accuracy. This is the most important reason I pick up STL instead of NEX or Cannon or Nikon. It's clear that you can not get it from here. The focus speed decrease from 12 fps to 8 fps in burst mode and the fast continue shooting decrease from 8 fps to 5 fps. If you used it to take pictures of kids and sports, you will see the clear difference.

Another critical thing is the image quality. I bet this 20M sensor in A58 may not improve the high iso performance than the 16M sensor in A57. Just like the A65 provides worse low light performance than A57.

Not mention the degrade of video recording...Not mention the smaller screen...

The only better thing is the viewfinder, which is not a real big thing for lots people. All together you know why Sony drops the price of A58, cause it's not a upgrade from A57, on the opposite, a real minor degrade.

On Sony SLT A57 preview (198 comments in total)

I'm thinking of upgrade from A55 to A57 for the better EVF, longer battery life, no overheating and a margin of picture quality. However, when I tested one A57 in Best Buy, I found it won't refocus when I used continue shooting, while A55 does well. I did notice that if you set shooting mode to sport then A57 can continue refocus. It's really disappointed since I use continue shooting a lot to capture my kids' moving. I'm not sure if there is one option to switch the continue refocus on/off. Please let me know if you have a solution. Thanks.
