About me:

To obtain a sense of realism I have followed a code of minimal interference, whereby the people in my images are never directed or positioned. If the subject chose to adopt a pose it was impulsive & purely voluntary.

  • You're doing it the wrong way round. Put your money into a decent lens kit, which will keep up better as you progress through better cameras, rather than vice-versa. eg on your budget you could buy ...
  • The above paragraph is the best advice you will ever be told on the subject. It's often said by those in-the-know - and summed up perfectly here by Mr Tucker. I would add - SHARE your images on ...
  • Some really great work here. Though I do find it a sad sign-of-the-times that such talented photographers are not only willing to hand over their photos, but actually willing to pay for the...

  • I'm loathe to do the +1 thing - but there's nothing much I can add which Parry Johnson hasn't already said. I have recently bought a few 2nd hand 35mm SLRs , really for nostalgia and ...
  • Stunning colours, stunning landscape, stunning photograph. Nicely done.

  • Hi there, I was once in a your shoes, waiting for a FF camera (I bought a crop-sensor camera knowing it would be temporary until FF appeared on the market). So I made sure I only bought FF lenses. ...
  • I think what you really want is a 'How to' book for a beginner using a camera. At the end of the day, the question of why, where & how to point your camera is the same as it was for the D90 (or ...
  • The use you've made of the dramatic lighting once the sun was up is just amazing, especially #6 Was this a fresh fall overnight?  Did it settle and is it still there? - I ask as I'm looking to make ...
  • Fair enough, sorry if it appeared I was quote-mining. (I'll blame your placement of the full stop for the reason I misinterpreted ;) ) Seeing as the 28-75's go so cheap on the 2nd hand market these ...
  • I did. Three of them. All had to be returned (1 faulty aperture, other 2 unusably soft at long end) :( Wow! That's an accolade. Even on your D700? You must have had a good copy. Interesting (but ...
  • Gordon, if I can just suggest running a bit of localised noise reduction over your grandson's face - it's got a bit grainy where you've lightened the shadows under the cop's hat. Nice decision to ...
  • Due to your main choice of subject, you don't need to hurry over changing lenses - therefore lose the main advantage of a zoom (unless you shoot in a lot of dusty places and find yourself cleaning ...
  • Is this anything to do with the business man and marketing professional, first name Scott? The man is a genius/shark (delete as applicable) Who can blame him? There are so many idiots out there who ...
  • I think you just love photography. ;) All photos have dynamic range - and these samples show a mix of high and low range. So I'm not sure I get your point.
  • I think the options have already been covered. Just to add (from experience not hearsay) my own opinion: The 18-105 VR is one of those straight-to-market-quality-control-dodging lenses susceptible ...
  • Lightroom - Yes, it's very user-friendly Photoshop - No, I had a few hours tutoring to start me up the initial steep slope of the learning curve You don't need either. There are plenty of free ...
  • It's nothing to do with film. It's to do with the fact they were shot on a Hasselblad..... Sounds like stupid reasoning, huh? But is it any bigger a bunch of bull to argue over what make of ...
  • These are not an example of documentary photography. These are as polar to the genre 'documentary' as is Harry Potter! Too glitzy for my tastes. They are more the sort of photos you'd find in ...
  • LOL ;) Glad you worked that one out! To be fair, it stumped me first time too when I set bracketing I expected a shutter burst. RTFPP seems apt here :P
  • Did you only press the shutter release once? The instruction manual?! ;)
