Set camera to manual and get yourself a long exposure going, then just start continuously clicking.  Typically I have about 20 second exposures, but for some reason I hadn't dialed in the camera...

Nice storm tonight, this was my only keeper but I thought it pretty nifty :)  XE1 and 18-55. Single volley of lightning, 3.5s exposure.

It won't win any FPS, autofocus or high ISO competitions, but it's a damn fine camera.
