pumeco: I've never owned a Leica but have always had respect for their design; I generally love the Leica lines, and I understand perfectly how the designer was thinking when I see a Leica Camera.
Not so in this case, it just doesn't look very "Leica" to me.
There are elements I like, such as the large round viewfinder and the simple but elegant strap eyelets, but that's as far as it goes. Edge placement and even placement of the famous red dot looks wrong by Leica standards. I have no doubt as to the quality of the camera, but from a design point of view, I think it should have retained the classic Leica minimalist but chunky feel they achieved with the M series, but adapted it for the taller SLR style camera we have here.
Too many curves.
I really don't think people buy this camera for the looks...
A clever way of getting rid of their stock of antic Kodak sensors !
ginsbu: Now make a version for mirrorless! 10mm is a useful FL on both APS-C and 4/3-sized sensors.
Of course, a 6 or 7mm specifically for m4/3 would be welcome too!
@Francis Carver, if a lens is built for an EVIL camera, a different optical formula can be used (compared to a design for a longer flange distance), and therefore the lens can be made smaller, "please try to understand it"...
tkpenalty: they mention its rectilinear; this lens has zero distortion. If samyang manages to pull this off, this will be one of the best primes by a long shot. I cant wait to try this out on a x pro1 lol!
By rectilinear, they just mean that it's not a fisheye !
Making a camera with 3G and Android... but that doesn't make calls, how stupid is that !
I hope that Cyanogen mod will be ported to it !
Perfect composition !
Awesome shot, you pushed the camera to the extreme !
plasnu: Focus peaking is coming?
I'm not interested by the X-Pro 1 because focus peaking is missing, but I guess that Sony has patents on it.
Anadrol: 230,000 dot rear LCD... Leica are good for jokes.
If I pay 6800 euros I expect to have a display as good as 200€ compacts.I bet that next year there will be a special edition with improved display, like the M9-P with sapphire glass...
A good LCD would cost them maybe 50 euros, a shameful way of cutting corners.
230,000 dot rear LCD... Leica are good for jokes.
Jogger: This is basically the Rolex of cameras; more status symbol/jewelery... impeccable craftsmanship and timeless design, but it doesnt keep time any better.
Buy an Audemars Piguet, that's real status :D
yuyucheu: Dispointed, It's not 32MP.
Buy a D800.
Zvonimir Tosic: Some people were asking why this X-PRo 1 is bigger than the X100?I think it's an equation where camera is considered in relation to certain lenses. With that new 60mm lens, an X100 would be unbalanced. But with a tiny 23mm lens, X100 looks such a darling. In addition to that, if the Fuji delivers an M-mount adapter (and they say it is in the pipeline), people will mount heavier Leica glass on this camera. Thus making X-Pro 1 in the same size as M9, is a very smart, forward-looking move. Leica users will be at home, so to speak, and no one else would bother either. This camera is exactly what some modern idea of a Leica M should have been.
noirdesir, reading you, I really wonder what witchcraft Sony used to build the NEX 7.Besides the viewfinder just uses one piece of glass for magnification.
rurikw: Sigh. Yet one more splendid camera ruined by a fixed screen! Why doesn't anyone understand that an articulated screen is the heart of a live view camera. This one is dead.
Yes, especially because Sony made it with the 5N.
It's really too bad that considering its huge size, the camera doesn't even have a built in flash !
Neither a tiltable screen...
In an interview a Fuji representative said that they made the camera big on purpose. What’s the point of EVIL cameras then ?!
If the camera is not jacket pocketable, why bother making small lenses ?They could then make the lenses a bit bigger but faster / better.
I prefer they decided to keep their lenses compact though, only if a new version of the body, smaller and cheaper, without the viewfinder is planned.
Sony managed to make an extremely compact NEX 5N, they can do the same.
simon65: "In an interview with Amateur Photographer magazine, Fujifilm Digital Imaging director Adrian Clarke has said the X-Pro1 will be part of a range of X-mount cameras".
Lets hope that future members of the family will be a bit smaller and lighter than the X-Pro1 beastie.
Given that the X100 also uses an APS-C sized sensor I really don't know why the X-Pro 1 had to be any larger than it. Surely it didn't.
The extra size and weight of the X-Pro 1 dilutes what are meant to be the inherent advantages of mirrorless cameras over their DSLR rivals. Namely that mirrorless is meant to equal smaller and lighter!
Otherwise why bother?
I 100% agree with you Simon.
Sony managed to make a very compact NEX 5N,Fuji could make a viewfinder less version.
The poor kitten died today :( rest in peace.
