Thanks for posting that brilliant set of images, its one of the best posts I've seen on DP review and it definitely makes me want to go there (although I won't be standing around in any icy streams! Your post processing is exemplary and very natural looking to me.
brunobarolo: On second thought, could it be that Sony hired the Sigma Manager responsible for pricing the SD1?

I am surprised by the m-mono, I’m not surprised its more costly, I said it would be when it was rumoured, I’m surprised they included an LCD at all, I think that they missed a trick there. I’m not being sarcastic either, I think they should have left it off! With the M9, Leica learned that all publicity is good publicity. The more people who criticized the M9 for its many omissions (when compared to the marketplace) the more people aspired to have one!
Undoubtedly this new camera will appeal to the collectors who just fill display cabinets, and to the many rich people who just want the latest exhorbitantly expensive toy. But this M-mono will appeal to many good and great photographers too. It’s a highly specialised tool which will be used to produced some stunning work in years to come. I’m not sure if it’s for me though. I love the flexibility of being able to use the colour channels to bring out the elements of each black and white conversion. I doubt a few extra stops of noise-free shooting could come close to compensating for the loss of that artistic freedom. Including Silver Effex Pro (which I use) with the M-mono is all very well but your only going to get a fraction of its functionality without colour data to play with.
The price is not unreasonable for such a specialist tool but I’d have to be printing large exhibition pieces to justify buying one.
As for the samples! when are camera manufacturers going to learn? why won't they give their new cameras to people who know what they're doing to make their sample images? these look like they were taken by your average visually illiterate Leica toting hedge fund manager:)

I moved to a small roller from Lowepro, easier to lug around and takes a 15" macbook and an Ipad! dont see the point in these!
I liked the look of this printer, I had the Canon guys print out 2 samples at Focus in Birmingham a few weeks ago. I gave them a sheet of Ilford smooth high gloss media to see if it offered any improvement over the Pro9000 dye-based machine I currently use. It came out with serious bronzing, it was only shiny on the ink. I then gave them some of hanumelle paper to see how dark it could get the blacks with a mono print. It came out with the darkest blacks being what I would call about 80% black, awful! I think the staff Canon used at the Uk's most important trade show, let the side down a bit with poor product knowledge of the machine and its software's operation.
If I print black and white on matt paper, I want blacks which look like charcoal! I have see such results on various displays at Focus, probably from an Epson. Epsons are thirsty!
From what you have suggested here, the machine is capable of great results, when set up correctly, I might yet be tempted:)
I think, with the appropriate adaptor, it will take all old OM lenses:)
what a complete MINGER! the designer should be spanked!
The English law system triumphs again!
Hopefully this idiotic decision will be appealed and overturned as it would lead to the possibility of literally thousands of 'fraudulant' law suits and turn the copyright system into a complete nonsense!
I would like to see a facility to filter showing only files which have had ammendments made in the develop module
Its a nice looking camera and I like the understated thing but I'll wait for the M10, its not worth £1000 just for a glass screen and a prettier body:-)
A lot of folk have slagged it off but it will probably do me just fine, if I ever get around to actually making a video:-)
yum yum yum!!!
