lindner: You guys should test less cameras and test those quick. Huge amounts of previews (and 'overviews' and shootouts and whatnot) in the 'recents' but very few actual reviews. Fewer but actual 'reviews' would be So Much Better.

Speaking for myself Simon, did I claim more? But I mean it. dpreview these days does 'everything' yet ends up with very few actual reviews in the recents. Try and look at the 'latest reviews' bottom right. preview, preview, preview, etc. Some of these cameras have been on sale for months. So do less!

lindner: dprview crew and management, lets drop the previews and focus on the reviews. Might cost you with the vendors but will ring well with visitors, at least if they're like me. You might have more clout than you think! My EUR.02 -Bert

Hello Barney, yes I'm aware that reviews would often be a bit later than the current previews. One of the reasons people keep coming back to the previews is, I think, that they hope for them to have become reviews.

Anyway, I can only speak for myself, but I don't really think 'something is better than nothing', especially if the right to post 'something' implies the full review will be postponed until cleared by the vendor. What I care about is your complete opinion of a camera. In the case of the D800, I'd like to hear whether all the pixels can actually be used well, and how low light performance / noise relates to the D700. For example.

Simply skipping the preview would sometimes get information to readers later, but it would give a strong signal of independent journalism and detailed, thorough and complete evaluation.

This camera has been in the shops for a while now, still only a 'preview' on the site. I would prefer for dpreview to dump any 'early preview privileges' by camera vendors and just post proper reviews as soon as possible once the cameras are out.

Here is one reader who would prefer to see a proper review immediately, and skip the 'preview'.

If Panasonic thought it was a good idea to avert risk by demanding a straight up review to be postponed until over a month later, I'm pretty sure they shot themselves in the foot. I might well have bought one for Christmas, and will not now for quite a while.
