babygirl2012: My total cost on preorder with A7 kit, 2 new lenses on preorder, batteries, battery pack, charger, camera mount flash, memory cards, and 3 year premium insurance is 5026.00 CAD
A far cry from $$10, 000.00 just 3 years ago from Canon.
And Neodp I dont think I'm a fool...sold all that and bought new.
Foolish is not changing with the technology of today, especially when the Mark ll less than impressed me in AF and color rendition to my liking. The low light iso was never to great or useable for me to be wowed by it-my fujifilm x20 does better.

I know there is a Mark lll which I dont own,and the Mark ll I did own, for that very simple reason I am comparing the Mark ll. I know its better (Mark lll) but decided to sell all my Canon gear in a package sale which was more enticing to the buyer.
So being cameraless I decided to go this route.
Hope this explains my comparison. ??????,

Remember NEX is dead...this is an Alpha not a Nex camera. I wanted a Sony A99 originally, then this camera released.

Well my Canon 5D Mark ll NEVER impressed me in low light, so really I have nothing to lose.
As for the kit was field tested above average for a kit lens, this will be my fishing, out in the boonies, who cares if something happens to it lens...lol.

peevee1: "The A7 and A7R do NOT come with external battery chargers, instead relying on internal charging over USB. "

Cheap bstards, not including $5 charger in $2000+ package is a new low.

No it's not included. The kit for the a7 has no charger other than charging with cable.
It is suggested to buy one and an extra battery or 2, also buy the battery grip.
For us Canadians, I've still not come across any camera dealers selling them. Preordered from BHPhoto. Us Canadians up here cannot order batteries, electronics, cameras, etc off of amazon.com
I have not seen anything on Sony Canada still, or amazon.ca
The Camera Store (Calgary) Vistek, Future Shop (very limited there), Bestbuy (limited selection as well)

Chert: There is a contradiction in the article. It says:

"and also have XGA (1024 x 768 pixel) electronic viewfinders,"

if you multiply those, you get just under 0.8 Mpixel (800K)

Yet, later it says:

XGA (2.4 million dot) electronic viewfinder

Based on experience with my a77, I presume the later is correct and not the former.

I LOVE the 100% field of view on the Sony cameras - I used a Nikon D70 once, with it's 95% or whatever. I carefully framed a photo - making sure I had the trash can out of the corner. Took the shot, looked at it and wanted to slam the camera to the ground. (This was back in the day that I was using my A2 camera, which wasn't working that day - worked perfectly after that, but that day was totally dead Very strange.)

Although, 100% of my lenses are A mount, I hope this positions Sony to grab customers away from Cannon and Nikon.

Already did grab me, sold my Canon 5D Mark II and preordered.

www.thecamerastore.com has a field test worth watching if not already mentioned, it's on youtube.

PerKr: You really need to take a step back and start thinking about why the 6D is the size it is. Or why the 1D are the size they are.

Let's go back to 1985. Cameras used film, focusing was done manually, most new cameras would have a meter to help you with exposure. The Minolta 7000 had just hit the stores and the 9000 was introduced. The size of these cameras? Well, I can't be sure of the others but the dimensions for the 9000, without the motordrive, were 53 x 92 x 139.

Cameras soon started to grow as the customers demanded it. As the 9000 shows it wasn't actually needed for the camera to function, it was mostly ergonomics.

And now, Sony released the A7. Which is 65 x 95 x 127. Basically the same size as the 9000 was. With customers today wanting cameras to be small we have gone full circle. Soon enough the customers will demand larger grips again and the circle continues. No need to treat this as something revolutionary.

All that said, the A7 looks like a hot contender.

I want one for the portability, but still a FF.

Earthlight: These with some nice legacy glass are probably awesome cameras. Provided the adapters are not cumbersome to use. The new lenses seem kind of meh though, at those price points. But who knows, maybe they are stellar performers.

Im going to dump all my Canon gear for one of these, jumping ship!
When will they be available? Where?

babygirl2012: Looking to replace my Canon 5D Mark ll and getting more and more confused as to what newer model I want to venture to next.
I mostly like landscape, macro, and the occasional portraits and candids.
I would like to be able to blow up my images to at least a 16x20 minimum.
I was considering a fujifilm x pro1 or a sony a99 both have good and bad, as there is no perfect camera.
But wondering if a full frame is really what I need. What I really just want is just clear vibrant photos i don't care about video in any way, I want a camera that is dedicated just to photos, are there any still out there??!!????

I'm hoping Fujifilm comes out with a XPro2 fairly soon, if not, they'll lose my sale. I don't want another camera that has autofocus issues.
