  • Honestly, and I suppose I'm talking out of my you-know-what here, but anyway -- for a pro photographer, is there really such a thing as "the unknown"? To me it seems like you would go and research ...
  • It's not absurd at all. Getting in close to a face is great, but doing so with a wide angle can distort features if you aren't careful. Look at the portraits that StevenE linked to. Sure they are...

  • You need an SSD, all the RAM you can find, and an i7. Oh, and money. Source: A D800 owner (me).
  • Well the vignetting and soft focus clearly indicate that the Xvario is not capable of....I'M KIDDING! Gotchya. Great story, but don't leave us hanging. I want to see the photos that she took!!
  • Heh.  The "Review" in "DPREVIEW"  hasn't meant "camera review" for years now. This is one of those sites where users create the content for the site owners, in the form of forum posts, mini-gear ...
  • I've never had problems with the structural integrity of their boxes, but they do look pretty beat up. I have a two part theory about this: 1) they recycle/reuse their boxes, and 2) they purposely ...
  • I will say no, but my guess as to who has come the closest would be none other than DPReview's best friend in the world, Mr. Ken Rockwell.
  • Not to play Jr. Detective or anything, but that is quite a list of Leica equipment there. It would have to be quite a lucky thief to "stumble" onto a treasure trove like that. Somebody knew it was ...

  • Replied in But Why?
Or, I don't give a rat's a__ one way or the other, so I'll steal it first and ask questions later. People who think taping out a logo prevents theft are truly deluded. Another favorite of mine is ...
  • Replied in Tamron
Another option is a used 80-200mm afd.  It is an outstanding lens, but heavy. probably not as fast focus as the nikkor 70-200.  check keh they usually have some.
  • I don't understand this thread. Why is everybody concerned about "losing the crop factor" with Fx. Get a D800 and flip the flippin' thing into Dx mode. Problem solved. Crop! With the Dx mode! ...
  • Replied in Dream Camera
Oh I have a secondary dream camera: A digital version of the Hasselblad/Fuji XPan.
  • Replied in Dream Camera
It would be the guts of a D800/e, but in the body of an F6.
  • Respect is earned, not given out for free. Certain members of the younger generations would do well to keep that in mind. Me, I will never buy a camera without an optical viewfinder. it's that ...
  • Somebody in this thread is missing the fact that the 58mm lens is a portrait lens for DX users. Do the math. What is the classic portrait lens of 35mm sized FX cameras: 85mm. What is the 58mm field ...
