I, too appreciate the polite discussion. It's easy to be combative; it takes a bit more effort to be considerate of others' feelings.
I'm fine with the fact that the top and rear wheels can do EV...

Well, you've certainly given this a lot of thought, much more than I have. I have to take issue with a few of your points, however.
Do you know that the top control wheel changes the aperture in A...

If Sony used a new team to design the 5R, it was a good decision overall, IMO. The function button and control wheel are useful. As for the color of the buttons, do you really look at them when...

My wife and I visited Australia a couple of years ago. We stayed with friends in Manly and travelled around some. We had a great time and would love to go back.

Thanks, Ron. Don't get me wrong, the 55-300 is sharp and it's a great value.
Here's another recents shot.

Thanks, Cindy. I broke my trusty 70-300 and decided to get the 55-300 instead of repairing it. The 70-300 has a couple of features that the 55-300 lacks but the latter lens is lighter and, of...

From time to time, someone here asks about how the 55-300VR compares to other lenses. I thought I'd post a few pics I took at a local lagoon the other day. It was in the middle of the day so the...

Depends on what you call modestly priced. I think a DSLR with a 1.5 crop factor (450mm equivalent) does well with a 55-300 or 70-300mm lens for wildlife. I also own an Oly E-620 with a 70-300 lens...

You're not wrong, including your statement about DOF.
As for price, A 55-300 VR is less expensive and almost as good as a 70-300 VR. A D7000, still available and a bargain at under $900 currently,...

You cannot go wrong with Nikon, Canon or Sony. I use a Nikon D7000 (among other cameras) and love it. It's not particularly heavy, it's very responsive and the image quality and high ISO...

To me, the Minolta is a brick. My DSLR (D7000) is relatively light, not that large and fits well in the hands. My 5R is perfect when I want a tiny, light camera that's capable of taking great...

Congratulations! Great job by you and the 5n.

I couldn't care less what the value of my 5R is. I'm not selling it any time soon and will probably never sell it. When I get a new camera, I'll keep the 5R or give it away.
That said, there are...

Exactly. The 18-55 is excellent. I have taken many sharp shots with it. The OP's lens is apparently defective.

I agree that the black buttons look cool. I also agree that silver and/or raised buttons might be better for some. But IMO, it's an overstatement to say that the buttons are a "nightmare."...

Curly and Pepe live at the (very nice) B&B we recently stayed in, in Amsterdam. All photos were taken with the 5R and Sigma 30mm.

Thanks for all of the kind comments. I'm often inspired by the great photos exhibited here.

The pancake photos apparently didn't load properly so I'll try again. If they eventually load and you're seeing these twice, I apologize.
