On Stock Android HTC One announced post (7 comments in total)
In reply to:

Eddy M: I prefer their BinkFeed than boring looking stock android home screen. I wanted to buy this phone because of the hardware and of course its BlinkFeed but the 5MP camera really turned me off.
Still HTC BlinkFeed looks a lot better than stock android.

stock android is only as good as you make it look. You can make it look AMAZING. If you dont put in the time to find nice widgets, themes, etc. then it will probably be boring looking.

petr marek: And next year DP4M with the same sensor and 75mm lens... Another $999 from each fan. And in 2015 new Foveon with doubled resolution but the same bugs and another slow DP serie again, no HD video of course, it´s too much work...
How about fixing bugs first, wide RAW support etc. and some invention...?

and how bout making it fairly fast, and a better screen

On Nikon unveils 24.1MP D5200 DSLR with optional Wi-Fi article (392 comments in total)
In reply to:

Timmbits: Correct me if I am wrong, but you basically get, over the D3200:

AE Bracketing
WB Bracketing
Time-lapse recording
3 or 5fps (instead of fixed 4fps)
extra Scene modes: auto, party/indoor, color sketch, but you lose sports(unless that is covered by auto)

An articulated swing-out LCD (too bad it's not vertical or like on the Sony)

60fps (rather than 30fps)
Stereo microphone

Personally, with all the HDR going on, the only thing I would really miss, in the D3200, is AE Bracketing... and it's a little frustrating that it is just a software issue and a feature intentionally left out - and not because of some sort of hardware limitation. ...and perhaps the stereo mic.

You forgot the 32pt autofocus.

If this had a pureview sensor with a f2.2 4x zoom lens and a dual core processor then it would be worth $350. Way overpriced and underpowered

Direct link | Posted on Nov 13, 2012 at 05:12 UTC as 12th comment

This is at least 200$ overpriced. It should have been priced like another compact mega zoom but you can olso use it as an android. At this price you can get a nexus 7 and a super zoom. I at least they had the sense to open source the software

If you do not recognize your mistakes, you cannot correct them.

K-01- slowest mirrorless system ever

I have heard that the liveview autofocus on the pentax k-30 is extremely fast. You guys should do a comparision

EmmanuelStarchild: I'd like to see how this compares with the Canon 18-135. I tried to click on Gallery, but it brought me here.

Ah, there's the gallery.

the pentax 18-135 is a far superior lens to the canon. Its smaller, weather sealed, faster AF, quieter AF, and sharper

IF this had a better UI it would be a hit. But sadly it is stuck with symbian. If it had windows phone 8 I might consider a purchase.

stevenllc: I'm hesitating between slt-a57 and pentax k-5. K-5 is around $150 more. Which one should I get?

only get the sony if AF or live view is important. If yuo like photography then get the pentax

keltos: Is the Af on par with the D7000's now ? or better ? I shoot jet fighters and already hesitated between a k5 (good price now) and the D7k, but now comes the K30... if the AF is better than that of the K5 I might just wait for the 25th of June..

yeah, how good it is no one knows right now. It probably still wont be on par with the d7k though (although it is $300 cheaper)

Thom45: $900 to go from my 14mp K-7 to 16mp makes little sense. Time for Pentax/Richo to come to the party with a full frame DSLR in the 25 to 35mp range.

k-30 is much better than the k-7.
1) MUCH better af
2) focus peaking
3) Faster fps
4) MUCH MUCH better video
5) Much better IQ and more than mp
- much better dr
- 2-3 stops better high iso
- much less noisy low iso

What the k-01 NEEDS:
1) a more indented and comfortable grip with a indent for your middle finger without making it bigger
2) Much better AF (ep3 like)
3) more lenses that take advantage of the big hollow space inside
4) an optional evf

In reply to:

Pontiac Tempest: Why is it that EVERY manufacturer when making a mid grade or base model dslr has to narrow the span between the lens and the grip. ALL pro or high end models always have a better grip. Do those who are not "pros" or do not have the extra funds to spend on higher end models have to suffer with bad ergonomics??? It seems like they all (Sony/Canon/Nikon etc) do not want to produce a lower end camera that has the size or the overall feel in a grip that the upper class do. Start here with the K-30, it looks like an awesome design but why narrow that span making your fingers somewhat cramped. PS..My hands are average...meaning I wear a med to sometimes large size men's glove...

the k-30 seems to have a better and deeper grip than anything else at the price point

2010 - Olympus PEN E-P1

2008 - Nikon D3
2007 - Pentax K10D
2006 - Nikon D200
2005 - Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D

Based on past results, I'll say the award really does not mean much. Fro example, there are some non-deserving winners while other deserving ones like Sony NEX/Axx never won.

actually i would agree with these results other than a few changes

lindner: You guys should test less cameras and test those quick. Huge amounts of previews (and 'overviews' and shootouts and whatnot) in the 'recents' but very few actual reviews. Fewer but actual 'reviews' would be So Much Better.

I kinda agree. Needs to be less previews and more reviews. Previews usually just say what we already know. Love the comparsion tool though
