This does apply to the 16-50 also. With the RX100 at full tele the closest focus distance is about 2 feet. With the 16-50 at full tele it's abut 25cm.

I actually purchased an NEX-5R with the 16-50mm PZ a couple of weeks ago and, like you, will not be adding any further lenses. I have also owned an RX100 (now sold) and can offer the following...

I picked up an NEX-5R with the 16-50mm PZ just this week and am relieved to find I'm pleasantly satisfied with it.
I was a bit nervous about it given all the negativity there has been towards this...

I find the "zoom lever" too loud (and fast) for video. If I ever use zoom during video it's always slow when I'm using a tripod - like you're slowly tracking in on a subject. I find the only way to...

Unless your getting paid for your photography just do what gives you the most enjoyment.
I arrived at a similar position to you recently - built up a little kit (mine was Micro 4/3, but that's...

The individual photosite size is not so relevant on modern sensors with gapless pixels - it's the total amount of light gathered by the lens that's the most important factor in determining noise...
-
It's not that the NEX 'compensates by having a better sensor' - it's just that the NEX has a much larger sensor so it can gather more light, which compensates for it's slower lens.
Sensor...

I did mention the flash - but thanks for pointing out the mode dial.

It sounds like you're waiting for an NEX-6 with a touchscreen. I'd pick one up straight away if it had one.
-
There's no "cons" of buying a camera with an EVF. It's just that in this case the camera with the EVF lacks a feature that I desire - a touchscreen. I would just get more value out a touchscreen...
-
I've checked up on this and from what I see the NEX-5R flash is 7 metres at ISO100, the NEX-6 is 6 metres at ISO100.
A bit more powerful, but not that significant.

Hmm... I think this must be a quality control issue and not a feature of these particular models.
It's probably best I call Sony about it though just to be sure...
-
I think you sum up the differences in the cameras well, with the NEX-6 being build with traditional photographers in mind - viewfinder, popup flash, no touchscreen.
I've enjoyed the creative...

I'm trying to decide between NEX-5R and NEX-6 with 16-50mm PZ as a compact package that I can just take out with me without excessive bulk. I just want to make sure I've got all the factors I have...

Of course - I didn't think of that. A shame really - I got this lens in part because of its OIS, particularly in video, so it's disappointing that I get noise from it recorded in video.
The G6...

I've just been doing some testing with my Panasonic 14-45mm, Sigma 30mm and Panasonic 14mm and they all give me some low-level sounds that are noticeable when things are quiet (I've never heard a...

Manual focus doesn't seen a practical option in video. I imagine it's only there because all the focusing options for the PASM modes are included in Movie mode by default.
Are you using the...

Interesting reading - although this was with the 7-14mm lens, which I am never going to own.
I can't say I've noticed anything on my E-PL5, but I am using the Panasonic 14-45mm (I wanted a good kit...

I agree. The 2 most important aspects for me when it comes to selecting a camera gear are the sensor and the lens. So in these 2 aspects you are going to be no worse off with the G5.
The G6 seems...

I actually own an E-PL5 (same sensor as the E-PM2 and E-M5), and the very specific reason I chose it was the sensor performance. Shoot a lot of photos of my active kids indoors and in challenging...
