If this is going to be a mock Canon photographers and their big equipment thread ... knock yourselves out:
Photographing sand in Mongolia's Gobi Desert.

I've been to a fair number of countries and Sri Lanka stands out as an amazing travel destination. The people are friendly, the food extraordinary and basically the whole place is just one big...

Lionel, thanks for preparing, moderating and judging the challenge. Lots of fun for us!

The Canon is a little more than a pound lighter but in terms of optical quality I doubt there is any real world difference between the two.
With respect to the cost difference, I think that's...

That is great. Thanks so much for posting. DPR at its finest.

My understanding is that the D800 is a superb landscape and studio camera but not primarily a wildlife/action body. So maybe stick with Canon.
I love their...

Thanks for the kind words.
We did a lot of bird photography so even the 500mm did not have enough reach on occasion.
With mammals, sometimes they were right beside the vehicle, other times they...

Sensors that are not as prone to getting dirty, and much easier to clean, would be good. Better seals between lens and mount, and ultrasound blasts, have improved things considerably. Perhaps there...

Or should we point out that given the communication norms on DPR it is virtually impossible for us to distinguish angry pedantry from expertise on this site.

Aargh! I was hoping range might provide a clue as Glossy Ibis is mostly a bird of eastern North America and White-faced a westerner but their ranges overlap in New Orleans.
So I'm no help!
