If this is real, it's a *very bad* miscalculation on Leica's part. That lens is too slow to be useful in my opinion. I was hoping for a Leica response to the Sony RX1. If this *is* confirmed as...

Leica makes some of the best lenses in the world. Ultra-sharp even wide open. ...which really makes me question if this is real.
-
I mean, they've positioned this new thing between the full-frame M 240 and the APS-C X2. My curiosity is piqued.
-
They still make the best lenses available. It would be great to see something *relatively* affordable from them with an M-mount. Maybe an APS-H like the M8 was?
-
Thanks for sharing your pictures and insights! I really need to try the 240 out!If nothing else, you've at least sold me on the 50 lux - I love that f/1.4 alley shot! :)

Kind of thinking of the Sigma 35 for my 6D for the same-ish reason. Got the 40 STM...remarkably sharp and extremely compact - just wish it was a bit faster. RX1 is tempting though...I love Zeiss...

^^^ Exactly! I don't think this can be stressed enough.

A $1700 full-frame camera with a $1000 lens on it is not outrageous if that's what you want and can afford. Nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head - a nice APS-C camera with a fixed 35mm...

The only real downside of the 40 is that it pulls up the 50mm framelines. You may find this mod helpful:http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/961470

FWIW, my image was full-frame from my M9. Vignetting not really an issue.

It is a stunning lens in terms of sharpness and contrast an can be had relatively cheaply right now. Here's a quick shot with the aperture wide open:
-
Thanks! Yes, it was handheld. After converting to B&W I pushed the contrast a bit also. The contrast enhancement made the "grain" stand out a bit more but I kept it that way instead of using noise...

http://carbon111.com/photos/seattle.jpg Not a panorama, just some of the top and bottom cropped out...Shot across Lake Washington. I'm finding the detail from this camera to be really uncanny.

I think it's interesting that the majority of the comments here imply that many photographers don't really like or even "get" modern art. I would have thought the opposite would be true. I guess I...

Thanks! Those seem like very useful tips indeed. What's the idea behind using the fluorescent WB setting?
-
I'm starting to get a better handle on the workflow now as well. Thanks to everyone for earlier suggestions.

Put an M-mount on the front of a DP Merrill brick! Leica and Zeiss/Cosina glass is pretty wonderful on an APS-C sensor! :DMy Ricoh GXR with A12 mount is my favorite "walking around" camera - having...

Other than a tendancy to underexpose, I think I'm starting to get the hang of this little guy...Insert caption here. If you do not edit this text it will be automatically removed.

Weird focal length choice. :/ The moment the DP1/2/3 Merrill's files can be opened natively in Lightroom, is the moment these cameras will really take off...

Wow! All the noise about the pricing makes me laugh. Nobody has to buy this lens - Canon has a perfectly good 28-135mm zoom with image stabilization for about a thousand dollars less than this....
