Thanks for the tip about Canon 500D close-up. Will definitely explore that!

Feel the need to chip in: the IQ of the little "A" is indeed astoundingly good. I am absolutely delighted by it, and I will post a few examples when I get the the time.
Whatever you usually do with...

Light and compact for its focal length; superb all metal construction; extremely fast and precise old fashioned noisy AF.
But, as it ain't a fashionable lens and does not get hyped up by the cooler...

Hood is included with lens. See PCH unboxing video.

Agree with your assessment: great piece of glass, on FF and on APS-C. Also it looks good, especially the new version with the knurled focusing ring. I love the size/weight of this lens. balances...

Thanks for your review. I also own that CZ 25/50/100 trio, and fully agree on their quality. I use a D800, and love the "wow" factor of my files.
However, operationally, I find I have a hard time...

working with an external OVF for wider than 28mm equiv is sorta unavoidable with this type of design, and many people actually enjoy that shooting experience because of the uncluttered very clear...

Nice seeing that part of the world. Hey I was there not long ago. Not with my V1 though but on a bike tour with old M6 and roll of film.
-
Completely agree re image quality. I had the M9 + 28mm asph summicron, and, really, the Nikon A does at least as well in normal light, and far better in low light. The IQ of that little A is simply...

It is OK. Not sure how one measures "OK" though. It works. Gets very slow when switched to "macro".

Enjoyed your blog. Many thanks for the quick tour of Lisboa surroundings. On my list of places to visit.
the pics are very nice and I agree with you that this lens and Nikon1 are a great...

@marike6: thanks for the reference. 1 EV DR difference can be meaningful, and something nice to have when one tries to salvage a pic marred by exposure error or excessive contrast. I am very...

One question from me, for the reviewer: what are the real life consequences of GR's 12-bit RAW processing vs the A's 14-bit ? I would have assumed there would be an impact on DR and maybe also on...
-
@R Butler: what would be the downside in publishing a schedule of coming reviews? It is not like you would be disclosing strategic insight to your "competitors". Such a schedule would help...

Indeed. The mushy bits are now gone. This looks fine, and OP should be able to get a great b/w conversion out of that! I am re-assured! ;-)

Apologies for barging... Was just zapping through this forum looking for X100s pics, and was puzzled by the thread title.
I have not looked closely at that many X100s pics yet, but while the ones...

That is true. But Ricoh are traditionally well assembled as well.
I really love my A. Had a great week-end with it. Would probably have been just as great with the GR.
One thing that annoys me...
-
You might add in favour of the A: "manual focus through lens ring".
The GR is designed so that all functions can be operated with one hand (great grip, the interface layout on the back), so you...

Erm...how do you justify getting both? Trying to find something sensible to tell my better half as I have A and am so tempted by GR. Not sure I could pull that off.... :-|
