patarok: They could leave everything out in a consumer-version. and i would be more than happy to see a lower resolution but higher burst-rate camera. But PENTAX(Ricoh) should never ever again let a Camera without weathersealings on the market. WR is a feature that is very "own" to Pentax DSLRs and the last 2 cameras that came without(K-500, K-S1) seem to have failed heavily. Other than that cameras that step out of the line, could hurt the image of PENTAX DSLRs... Dont worry, if it works out with the K-1 (and according to all those positive reviews it should), there will be a K-S FF version. And though it will be WR/AW it will not be as expensive as the K-1 i guess. -- Looking into my crystal ball ... i see a price tag of 1199 Dollars.

agree.
pentax should not reprsent a cameras that lack of wr like k500.
my crystal ball also tells me that there will be 3 camera lines only for k mount:
k1 series
k3 series
ko1 series/hope that/!
no more plastic cameras

I like the conceive and valued report except the conclusion!!!
K1 is not at league with d610 or 6d .both last camera are entry level cameras and outdated. You even didn't put it in d750 league.
The fair compare is D810 at least both are handling 36 mps sensor
Both are 1/ 8000 shutter speed both are well made bodies not a combination of plastic and ss. Don't forget the Pentax unique features that you already have mentioned.

Digital cameras are a sort of computer so it is usual thing to face issues. Also the camera components are coming from many different sources that
Camera makers can't control it effectively.

In reply to:

inspiron530: I went to CP+ over the weekend and remember listen to one of their conference. At one point the speaker talk about the decision to do K-1.
It turned out, K-1 has been a very hard push for many years directly from the developing team, which he said, it is a very nontraditional way for Pentax because most decision to do or not to do something usually coming from marketing department. And Pentax marketing team has never favor the idea of FullFrame K-1! because they don't think it will sell.
I wonder what marketing research data they have on hand.
This is the same marketing team that think rainbow color camera will sale! LOL
Personally, I think it is time to change their Marketing team. A marketing team like that will run the brand into the ground. Or they already did?

And by the way, from what he said, I get a feeling that if K-1 is not a success, it could be the last Pentax FullFrame ever.

I dont think it will the last pentax ff becaouse the new lenses and the future lenses are positioned to be ff/dfa/.
another points: ff sensors are lean to be cheap.
: Ricoh already invest on k1 so no more or big investment in future k2 or whatever the name.

nice work fuji.
I like the way they put their efforts whereas the lenses are periority.
though i dont like the way they price their cameras. 1800$ for xpro1 at release time may be ok becaouse it was innovative camera but 1800 or 1700 for xpro2 is not logical compare with some ff cameras!

belle100: Call me ignorance. I know Pentax produced some excellent MF since the film age. But I don't understand what's the fuss. Why is everybody here so excited about this Pentax FF?

And why you are not?
It is a new competitor which bring a FF machine with a very attractive price. This will push the others to decrease their prices. So if you are not a Pentax user you may benefit at least from the price.
Another thing I have to mention that the k1 is the only ff with RS +SR

colesf: "Part of the reason for all the interest in a full-frame Pentax is the vast collection of K-mount lenses that exist around the world."

Boy , oh boy. This lame argument needs to die a quiet death. It was lame in 2000, but now in 2016, it's irrelevant except for a few diehards eBay junkies. And that does not a market make. Do Nikon users jump up and down because they can use the old dust-filled relics in their closet? Do Sony users trumpet their AF lenses from the Clinton era? No, only Pentax and its fans use this bizarre marketing strategy. It would be like a third-tier car maker, like Suzuki, adding a cassette player to their cars so that baby boomers could play their precious English Beat and Journey tapes.

Besides the issue of lens availability, what exactly is the point of 36 mp? I think most photographers got over printing 4x6 foot prints when they realized huge prints are just narcissistic.

because the camera and the new lenses are not coming yet so they are talking ab out what they already know and experienced!!!

On article Worth the wait? A look inside the Pentax K-1 (649 comments in total)
In reply to:

Sergey Borachev: How can anyone know if it's worth the wait, when we are still waiting for enough proper or native lenses? The worth of a camera with a couple of zoom lenses or some old manual or film lenses cannot be assessed yet. Come back and ask the same questions in a couple more years' time. At this time, the answer has to be No, not worth the wait because it is not very useful for most photographers without enough lenses, and, by the time there are enough proper lenses, this K-1 is too old and unlikely to be worth using when compared to other options. The K-1 Mark II may be, if Pentax can release or get others to release another 8 lenses including fast primes for the mount.

Except for those owning some old Pentax lenses, there is no point getting this camera. In 2 or 3 more years time, assuming there are enough lenses, you still have to worry about how well this DSLR camera in its Mark II form can still compete with ever more advanced FF mirrorless cameras.

you are talking to one waiting a long time for the born of k1.!!
it is like the first kid!!!!
