Nice shot, I'm not sure about your lens, but my Nikon 105 AIS 2.5 has a built in hood and besides being very sharp on my 5n, has not flaired on me, maybe its the hood, but it is a very sharp lens.

For shots with the real bright background, try the HDR feature in the Nex-5n, it works very well.

If it had a built in EVF and a pop up flash I would buy and I love my 5n too,,,,,

Kit 18-55 is a very good video lens, and the 50mm is really good for low light and low light video if you have room, then the long zoom would do it for me.
