singveld: canon 24-70 without IS and nikon which goes from 12 to 36 while canon still lumbering at around 21. I am selling all my canon camera and lens and move on to nikon. canon is a sinking ship. We all know why, their semiconductor lithography tool unable to catch up with competition, their pride prevent them from buying competitor tool, so i think canon domination going to end.

photo sensor part of the chip is huge. But there are other part, like the extra circuitry that convert voltage into digital information. The smaller the resolution the lithography semiconductor tool, the smaller the line they can print on wafer, the smaller the line, the smaller the transistors. When the transistors is smaller, it use less energy, produce less heat.

38nm node and 90nm node is several generation behind the competition. 90nm-65nm-45nm-32nm, so we have roughly 3 generation behind.

Maybe not canon do not want to make 35MP cmos chip, maybe they do not have the technology. They do not have the semiconductor tool to do it.

If they do not fill their fabs with nikon lithography tools, maybe canon users will find them outgun by nikon now, sony soon. nikon did not handicap their AF for fear of losing sale for their professional model.

I have facts behind my words, canon and nikon used to be best semiconductor lithography makers. But now the top two are asml and nikon. Guess what sony cmos plant is using? Asml and nikon.

Check out canon website, their best lithography tool is FPA-6000ES6a and best resolution is 90nm. Nikon best is NSR-S621D at best resolution of 38nm. Asml best is Twinscan 1950i at 38nm.

So, when sony is using 38nm tool, canon still using 90nm tool in their semiconductor plant to manufacturer CMOS chips.

Wonderful. When can we buy it? I hope the battery of NEX can handle prolong use of IS. I wonder about that.

what about lapping? Just like people who lap the heatsink so that there is better contact with processor. Therefore, if there is a way to accurately measure the tolerance. The mount can be lap by sand paper.

Griffo 155: This is a huge disappointment for me... I am a massive fan of Nikon.
But Nikon this time IMO have shot themselves in the foot to protect their fragile DSLR market share - as I see it...

No Grip - no manual controls and a small size sensor to boot...

Well done Nikon!...

So once I've tried and tested the Sony Nex7 (and I like it) I think I'll order one of those and trade all my Nikon gear in! Simples!

all the best - A sad nikon user....

yeah i am thinking of nex-7 with leica M lens or zeiss M lens. I am sure it will be a smash. I was hoping something from nikon, but this is an epic fail.

what is this? a pile of cow dunk next to a flower, when i compare this with nex7.

Next trade show? Leica already did, it is call M8/8.2, oh i am sorry, they are making a cheap camera system, expect people who buy it to buy a 9000 dollars M lens on it? I am afraid not.

LOL, when the celebrities come out of restaurant or courtroom, they expect journalist to manual focus their M9 and get the shot? Does leica have the tele-lenses for the paparazzis to take the celebrities sun tanning or making out?
yeah it was a pro camera, in the 70's.
