Actually the new 24-120 is very good on the d800 and easily as good as the 24-70 is.
the 24-120 is a much better range and a lot more versatile than the 24-70 which is the worst of the 3 trinity...

The problem is the 2x tc does compromise image quality by a large amount, and apart from using it to magnify subjects at close range it hurts image quality when taking long range shots to a degree...

There is no situation where the d3x beats the d800 apart from maybe slightly better build quality, but my d800 stands upto the same environmental conditions that I subject my d3 too so I think...

feels abit cheap and the focus ring isnt very smooth but its very sharp, maybe the sharpest of all the 85's.go try it out and see what you think.

the only time the d3s beats the D800 is frame rate, iso is very similar and for everything else (autofocus, dynamic range etc) the D800 smokes it.
