I would save up a tiny bit more and go for a second-hand 16-85mm Nikkor... it will never leave your D90 again! :-D

Both will work perfectly fine with the D300, and you'll gain nothing by choosing the "faster" card.

How long ago since last Nikon service? Otherwise contact Nikon for suggestions... can't replicate your issue, so my guess is a "faulty" camera...   Best of luck - and would love to hear the outcome.

It's not clear, if you're running CaptureNX, but it sounds like that... Use system restore to roll back to pre-installation of NX2.   Of course as a happy user of Capture NX2, I would say upgrade....
