I am quite inexperienced. But I would 'suggest' considering a good condition used 80-200 2.8 AF-D instead of the 70-300 unless you really do need the additional 100mm.
'I' like the rendition of the...

I don't have this lens and thus maybe not qualified to post. But R.Diefenbach gave good advice as well as others. In particular, the shutter speed of 1/250 at 400mm on a small subject, could bring...

By sending the serial nos to Nikon Europe and any major repairers in Europe, it will make it more likely to get it back at some future time or at least, the thief being caught.

From your image, D800's will be soon be banned from art galleries.... ;-)
Wonderful image of the art.

I am only an amateur (rank), but for what its worth... last year I got a used 28mm 2.8 AIS, for a great price...
No wonder, the first few images were sharp'ish' in centre, I mean real centre, but...

That is true and sad. The street photo, portrait, B&W forums are seldom commented.
However, maybe that is why some post to gear forums, at least they will get comment.

That is true. The facility for plugins and was why I originally went with LR over Capture NX.
But more companies like Aftershot Pro (so I read) are now able to facilitate plugins.

The images I took on Saturday (walkabout), I processed the RAW's in RAW Therapee, exported as TIF and processed that in LR & PS6.
I kept the TIF and deleted the NEF's.

Just one thing bothering me. You note that the processing makes interpretation of the lens rendering irrelevant (basically). Taken as an absolute, true.
However, my question is....if the tonality...
