Hi,
I recall the above lens firmware was able to be updated with a 650D or a 5D3.
Can the lens firmware be updated with a 70D? (I can't find any resources confirming).
Thanks for your time

Thank you for your points and the link, TTMartin.

Question for 7D owners who shoot sports/BIF or other fast moving subkects. (I'm coming from a 60D and one of the main reasons for upgrading to the 70D was the improved autofocus through the...

Dubious focusing in low light wide open is nothing new. Canon's older primes provide inaccurate focus in low contrast situations. (From my experience: EF 85 1.8, EF 50 1.4, EF 50 1.8).

Early days for me so far but many positives. Only gripe is the shrinking of the Control Dial. It's also lower which is a stretch for the thumb when you use bb focus.

I installed in a few months back on a 60D. Heaps of new features. A new learning curve - it is a bit like getting a new camera. The features like focus peaking and intervalometer make it invaluable...

Thanks, good comments all.
I'm discounting the 100-400 for CameraCarl's aforementioned reasons. Plus - the weight, inferior IS and reportedly average IQ. And yes, the lack of MFA on the 60D....

Hi,
I was about to purchase the Sigma but had a session with the Sigma lens and not overly impressed. (It doesn't appear any sharper than my 55-250 and it is very heavy). I've ruled out the Canon...

The 70D is missing some of the 7D's zone AF options. Do you think that is a considerable omission for birding?
-
Who's writing it off?
Anyway, this post is about the AF performance for birds/wildlife, compared to the current 7D. Popular opinion says it is inferior.
Furthermore there may not even be a 7D mark 2.

I assume that away because:
"I do recall Canon as quoting that the IQ will be on par with the 60D (which if so is undoubtedly disappointing)"
...if so...

Thanks. Understand that but I do recall Canon as quoting that the IQ will be on par with the 60D (which if so is undoubtedly disappointing), and despite the Digic5 being 4 years newer, the sensor...

OP here. Thanks for your insight all.
General consensus is, despite the 19 pt cross type, the 70D won't be as adept as the 7D for action/wildlife/BIF.
I hadn't thought about the joystick factor....

Hi,
I'm considering one of the above cameras for fast moving subjects. Excluding the more robust build of the 7D, wondering which camera would be best suited for above photographic genre. (Stills...

Yep, tried it on about 3 different camera bodies with about 3 different EF 85m 1.8's. Same with the EF 50 1.8. When the lens can find a high contrast edge, it's fine, but for low light stage lens...

OP here. Just to close this, I tried the 50 1.4 in a shop and using centre point it failed to get a sharp focus on a face at 3m in mildly dull shop lighting conditions. More front focusing. I'll...

Thanks you all for your advice.
With the varying experiences by posters, I think I'll have to go to the shop, find a low contrast subject and compare for myself.
I tried many versions of the 1.8...

Hi,
Subject line says it all. I have the EF 50 1.8, thinking of upgrading to the 1.4. The reason being, I am not happy with the focus accuracy of the 50 1.8 in low contrast situations.
I mainly...

OP here - Apologies to all if I didn't search previous forums thoroughly enough for the reason behind iterations of the same APS-C IQ. (And that's just the Rebel line).
Does it not seem a bit...
