About me:

An amateur photographer and evolutionist Pentaxian. Marc picked up his first SLR at the age of fourteen, but without a darkroom he grew increasingly frustrated with the tribulations of analogue photography. It took him a while to appreciate digital, but then he embraced it wholeheartedly. The unknown sense of hassle-free control, the power to give images just the finishing touch that would make them match his memory of a scene - it still seems like magic to him. Which hasn't changed his conviction that there is merit in getting things right in camera, rather than posterizing images to death. In a sense, much of his work falls under travel photography, as long as you don't take this to mean fancy exotic locations. It's more a matter of how Marc will approach his subjects, always trying to explore them with the fresh curiosity of a traveller who sets eyes on them for the very first time. Marc lives in the Lower Rhine region, near the Dutch border. To experience his photography, check out his profile on 500px (click on link above) or visit pentaxphotogallery.com/artists/Madaboutpix.

Madaboutpix's current gear

Pentax K-3
Pentax smc DA 15mm F4 ED AL Limited
Pentax smc DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL WR
Yeah, I finally did it - just ordered a K-3 to replace my trusty old K-7!
The widest Limited in the current Pentax line-up, and now the widest lens in my bag. Easily the best wide-angle glass I've ever owned. How could I be so long without one?
Despite being no resolution daemon, my all-weather walkaround lens, esp. on travels. Owe it many of my best shots.
Pentax smc DA 35mm F2.8 Macro Limited
Pentax smc DA 55-300mm F4.0-5.8 ED
My entry into Pentax's wonderful line of Limiteds. Really capable standard-plus-macro prime, as long as it's not raining buckets (since, like all DA Limited primes, it lacks weather-sealing) ...
My telephoto workhorse for anything that requires a bit more reach. Light to carry, and great value for money.

This tiny pancake would nicely complement my DA15 Limited in the moderate wide-angle department. For some impression of what it can do in capable hands, check out the work of Colin Blunt on pentaxphotogallery.com (who happens to shoot the older smc version).

Would be enticing as an upgrade from my 18-55mm WR kit lens. Early reviews suggest it's a solid performer indeed.

One can dream, right? Even if I don't see me actually owning this phenomenal camaera ...
Pentax smc DA* 60-250mm F4.0 ED (IF) SDM
HD Pentax DA 55-300mm F4.0-5.8 ED WR
HD Pentax DA 70mm F2.4 AL Limited

Likely the most capable telephoto zoom in the current Pentax line-up. A bit pricey, alas.

If they have made this much-loved lens even a tad better than it already was, without asking a fortune for it, I'm tempted.

Wonderful short-telephoto pancake, esp. for portraits, landscapes, and what have you. One of the sharpest lenses in the Pentax lineup, it would be a worthy completion of my collection of DA Limiteds, too. And the HD coatings and rounded aperture make this little gem even more desirable. Which is not to say that the older smc version is an inferior lens (it is excellent, in fact).
Pentax K-30

If money didn't matter, this would probably be a nice second or backup body - but make it a black one, please! Could even imagine this one as my main body, although I prefer the quieter shutter sound, slightly better specs (14-bit, rather than 12-bit RAW shooting!), and more reassuring heft of the top-of-the-line models. Why not the newer K-50? Well, no real improvement over the K-30.

Comparatively affordable fast-telephoto prime, though with less range than the DA* 300mm. Focuses down to 1.2 metres. With its specs and IQ it sure would see a lot of use.

Would give me more working distance for macros, and all-weather capability into the bargain.

A long-telephoto dream, easily one of the most desirable lenses in the whole Pentax lineup.

Pentax K-7
This camera, though not without flaws, has changed my life - and certainly my photography. Discontinued in 2010, it can no longer compete with the latest generation of APS-C bodies, esp. at high ISO, but otherwise it was a great camera that never really failed me through 9,800+ actuations!
