You will not have problem with this lens. It is a very capable lens for portrait.
Wide open is not exactly f/2, it is around f/2.5. I have the nikon version.

There are protocols/procedures they follow to "check" your lens. Some of those include disassembling your lens ... and check everything in each aperture, focal length ... focusing system, IS, etc...
