  • Replied in Yes, you can
25 minutes is the maximum range of my mount :-D. You're right in supposing low latitude. Indeed, this is in southern hemisphere, in Madagascar. That picture was took in Mangily (23°S). The absence ...

Olympus E-510. ZD14-42. F=14 mm. F/D = 3,5. ISO 400. 25 x 1 mn So, it was with an Olympus E-510 and kit zoom. You can find a second hand one for less than 200 $. Barn door mount (10 $) turned by ...
  • Image stabilization must always be switched of when mounted on tripod (for star trails or not). It is designed for human body oscillation, not tripod vibration. A guy also detected compression ...
  • Good question... and bad results. Several times, I did wrong focus on small telephoto or wide angle lenses and I did only discovered it back home on screen computer. I'm using LiveView. I start ...
  • You don't use equatorial mount? With so short duration (3.2 s, isn't it?) you mostly have to fight with read noise. I will give a try this week-end. How did you managed to point in the right direction?
  • Replied in M 16 & M 17
Nice result but what an expensive setup!!! >I was able to capture 11 light frames 300s ea. @ f/5.6 using backyard EOS as the capture software Why didn't you worked wide open? Picture quality was ...
  • Macro-focusing with ZD50 with on E-510 or E-620 is nearly impossible...;-)
  • Cine versions are supposed to be optically identical. The aperture ring is continuous, not stepped. You may use some kind of screwdriver for more precise and more regular focusing.
  • With IF keyword, I found it: http://cjeastwd.blogspot.fr/2010/09/200mm-fd-lenses.html We can see that the large part of the new new FD has a square pattern instead of a linear one. Thanks all for tips.
  • So what? How can I know before buying on the net if this is: (1) Canon New FD 200 mm f/2.8 (2) Canon New FD 200 mm f/2.8 II (3) Canon New FD 200 mm ...
  • Created discussions Canon FD 200 2.8
Hello, I'm looking for telephoto for astrophotography (on FourThirds sensor). It seems that several version of the Canon new FD 200/2.8 lens exists (not the same number of elements inside for ...
  • Lol+1. There are a lot of old (but not too much) lenses that would be very nice for astrophotography. For instance, made by Olympus: OM 180/2.0, 250/2.0 and 350/2.8. But they are overpriced. ...
  • Hopefully, I have a dSLR with LiveView, articulated screen and back illuminated keys :-) Yes, I'm watching for some specific old lenses for years and some prices are crazy. That why I opened this ...
  • Does it make sense to use a bright lens instead of tracking? From a financial point of view: (1) Voigtländer 25/0.95 : 1000 € (2) Olympus 25/1.8 (or Pana 20/1.7) + ...
  • I know that HyperStar is very difficult to use, due to low deep of field that need precise focusing and tilt orientation. Even more, as you mentioned, C6 don't fit dsrl that should completely mask ...
  • Replied in Better place
Concerning the sensitivity to faint details, you are limited by noise. Noise comes from (1) reading noise (2) thermal signal noise (3) photonic signal noise
  • I didn't mentioned that I'm mostly interested in deep sky photos. So: When I compare to my Orion picture: Olympus E-620. OM 135 mm/2.8@4.0. t=6 x 60 s. Crop at 33%. One can see that orange or ...
  • Lol... I just checked recent successfully transactions. That's crazy. It seems to concern a lot of mirrors in this FL range. Otherwise, there is another kind of mirror: Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain ...
  • Catadioptric lenses also include refracting elements to correct mirror optical defects so they could be subject to CA. Indeed, I had a look to astro pictures took with the Samyang 500/6.3 and they ...
