sh10453: A lot has been said already, varying from praise to sour grapes.

All I can say is hats off to Canon's engineers!

This is a heck of a powerful piece of engineering and accomplishment in this field, and the class of this camera, although it's not for me, or even close to my budget.

Just designing for, and taking care of the heat issues, with such processing power, in a tiny (relatively) & enclosed environment, is by itself a formidable task, that its magnitude and difficulty may only be understood by electrical engineers (EE's).

Good job Canon EEs; way to go! Pats on the shoulders.

Jun2: 4K basically is about 8M per image. For most of purpose, you don't need to take still. Just take the video and extract 8M still from that.

I am not video expert but video's frame contains more motion blur for smooth motion

if all the frames are as sharp as still, your video will look like "Saving Private Ryan"

HowaboutRAW: How are so many in these comments drawing general conclusions about image qualities like colour, sharpness and noise without access to raw files from this Canon 5D Mark III?

Look DPReview posted a couple of real world raws from the Nikon D800, but even then it's hard to draw serious conclusions based upon only four or five raw files.

people just see what they wanna see..

Master Yoda: i guess stabilization isn't possible in these kinds of cameras.

I think it's more like canikon, all depend on the lens

Coguar: For me a Fuji X-PRO 1 offer more, and is better solution for personal use....

another solution is a Olympus OM-D EM5 ...

what you think comparing this and images from fuji ?

@Coguar
how'd you comment on the AF of the X-PRO 1?

(unknown member): I have been checking daily for price and availability on this lens. I love VR in the mid-range because I can shoot lower ISOs handheld and still get nice sharp photos. A D800e is in my distant future, and right now all I have are primes for mid-range on my D700, no VR (not a big problem for the D700). I want this lens, if it checks out good. I believe the street price will drop after release, sooner rather than later. If it just has good center sharpness at f2.8 I'm all in for it. Imagine the indoor, casual family portraits you could get with this and a D800e.

somebody use Leica S2 for casual pet shots, I could't care less
just pointing out the fact, D800e is not the best tool for casual shots
get it?

markcolangelo: I consider Canon Lenses as a long term investment, I stick with the Red Ring...

it's true that these 3rd party lens drop value (as %) quicker then Canon/Nikon/Zeiss

however since the base for C/N/Z is also higher in absolute term you can lose more $

it really depends on what's your definition of "nearly"

plasnu: I honestly thought this Camera is not really better than my NEX 5N in terms of IQ.

you know at this level it's more like a race car, you really need to explore its potential.
