Commented on Just Posted: Canon EOS 5D Mark III review news story
"What's difficult for people to understand is that 36 MP is not necessarily that much 'better' than 22 MP in the real world." Yet for the last 5 years 21 mp was so much better than 12, or was it?

You are talking about what is primarily a stills camera, in form and function. How many equivelent video cameras shoot 22mp stills?

Replied in Tokina 16-28 or Nikon 16-35 on Tripod for Real Estate Photography?
Try your 11-16 on the D800 in 1.2 crop mode. You might find it quite usable for the time being. :-)

Replied in 28-70 2.8 or 24-120 F4VR
I had the 28-70 and found it was as sharp at f/4 as was the 24-120 f/4. So I sold it for the extra range the 24-120 provides and have primes for speed. I figured that if they were the same at f/4,...

Replied in D4 + 14-24mm or 16-35mm?
I've used the 16-35 extensively on D700 & D3s. I sold it recently to buy a 14-24 and it shines on my D800. I quite liked the 16-35, the VR is immensely useful for small aperture, handheld shots....

Replied in Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert photos, D4
Very nice. I saw them in Toronto a number of years ago.

Replied in Why I'm not buying a D800..my D700 does rather well
Karl, no.
People don't talk with wonder how the sky is blue. Its assumed. They talk eith wonder when th sky is anything but blue. The wonders of the D700 have been documented for the last 4 years...

Replied in Macro with "outdated" D3s around the house!
Very nice shots. Love the last one especially.
However, may I ask that we refrain from suggesting the D3s is outdated? It certainly isn't. It's just a different tool. 12mp is still is still...

Replied in Would you buy the D800 Again?
Yes. Its worth the hype. I was one of those who thought more pixels kills high ISO, but this camera has smashed a few preconceptions. It's making me a more disciplined shooter too.

Replied in Crazy to sell 24-70 for 24-120 with D800?
The discussion is 24-120 f/4 VR vs 24-70 f/2.8. The pictures you've shown is a 5x zoom lens stopped down once vs a prime lens stopped down 4 times. Hardly a fair or relevant comparison. How does...

Replied in 24-120 is great and versatile lense
LOL. They might persuade you to buy a D3x instead of a D800 since they are in stock and who needs 36mp anyway. :-)

Replied in Crazy to sell 24-70 for 24-120 with D800?
Not crazy. I use it on a D3s and D800. With an arsenal of specialist lenses, it's nice to have a generalist lens in the mix. The 24-70 is a great zoom lens but falls in to a specialist role too for...

Replied in D800 battery life...how many shots between charges?
Addendum:

Replied in D800 battery life...how many shots between charges?
Interesting. I did a wedding yesterday, D3s & D800. By reception time I had taken 450+ shots with the D800 and had 72% battery remaining. I don't use live view much if at all and image reviewing...

Replied in D600 is a sham
I agree somewhat, but the pattern is different than you describe. There are "same sensor, price point variants" like the D200, D80, D40x, D60. But the true pattern is the release of a next gen...

Replied in Don't Kid Yourself
Halai, if I were /only/ a hobbyist, I would keep my D800 as my one and only camera. You can select small JPEG for family snaps and still get a 9mp image. On the trip of a life time one can future...

Replied in This would be the full frame D40
D40 was the first to lose the in body AF motor, relying on AF-S only. This is the same. Also, dual SD card on low end, XQD on high end. This would further the notion that CF is a dying breed. It's...
