I think you are playing Russian roulette with expecting the shoot TTL and auto ISO. It's simply unpredictable and IMO there are too many variables to ask the camera to get it all right for you.
-
That's simply rubbish of course. You obviously don't own a D800.
-
Big time. I have shot countless shots of my kids in landscape mode and crop to portrait aspect, and lower, and still ended up with a 10-15 mpx file.
Of course, the more you crop, the more your AF...

Me too. How on earth Nikon have not figured this out baffles me.I have a D800 and love it, but I am loathed to get rid of my D700. I am not interested in a D600, with it's crippled AF. But I...

Yes, he explained some issues he was having with the matrix AF. Single point impressed him, but the AF gave unpredictable results when using groups.I think Nikon dropped the ball in a number of...

Hi Lance,So you upgraded to the E? How are you finding the difference? I was contemplating doing the same.Cheers,Andre

I disagree. For those who only get to try one D800 (the one they buy) or end up with a bad copy, the title might be perfectly true.It clearly IS a problem with the D800 - even if only a QC problem.
-
The part you are missing is that there are occasions when OOC JPEGs are the only option - like for sports photographers. It simply shows that the JPEG engine in the Canons have been better tuned.

Is there a Photo Ninja plug-in? There appears to be only a standalone on the web site.
-
No, the IDX cooks them better in default mode. It's obviously possible to increse in came NR and shaprpening on the D4.

1. It wasn't a statement but a question.2. What does the fact that I have an empty DPR gallery have to do with the discussion?Your's is inpressive BTW. ;-)
-
Ditto,I haven't had a chance to try my 14-24 out much on the D800, but you've certainly inspited me to.
-
Stunnign image. Did you use any gels on the rim lights?
-
Capture One would have little problem dealing with it.
-
Who spends upwards of 6K on a camera to shoot JPEG?
-
Not really. At least the 70-200's are fast focusing lenses, though the Canon is faster. The 851.8g is slow just as the 1.4g is.
-
Stunning as always Lance,Now you've really got me wanting to get out on a shooting day with you. I'll ping you to organize one. Looks like I could really benefot from some private tuitition. ;-)

Yes indeed, that's happened to me a few times. Sometimes the DC ring can be moved in the camera bag, so it's worth checking it before snapping away.I've been tempted to tape it so that it doesn't...

The light was nice but low so I set the camera to auto ISO, with minimum shutter shpped of 1/200th. It still amazed me the files I get from this camera at ISO6400. It's almost like I'm shooting...
