sandy b: I will get one just for birding, that makes it worth the price of the ticket alone. The V3 and CX70-300 cost over $2000, and is well worth it.
Look at the Nikon 1 forum at the BIF and other shots with the combo. Incredible. Hand held 810 mm equiv. with amazing AF. For low light I have my D600. For everything else I am getting a V3. I like how Nikon has reacted to the market and made the enthusiast model.
Now, either get the Sony sensor or tweak the Aptina, and it will be a do anything camera.
If anyone thinks the V rig will have the same image quality as a D7100/D800e with a big tele they will be disappointed.
Looks like a lot more folks think this is a good camera than some of the experts here.
TylerQ: Not bad, but O. Winston Link tops these photos.
A couple of these would have made O. Winston smile, I think.
TheBaldEagle: I wish/hope that the new high ends Nikon Cameras (like D810) have at least 4K video output (even in APS-C crop size) for other recorders in order to compete well with Sony Alpha 7S and others 4K capable cameras because 4K is the future (next several years) for high end video!
Second generation 4K TV upsamples 1080p sources and it looks a lot better than standard HD, almost as good as 4K native. So yes, 4K TV is here and it's useful now. Not to mention the incredible slam your jpgs have on say a 65" UHDTV.
Shamael: Who needs 36 mpix 1080 video and 3200$ to pay, while the trend is 12 mpix, 4k and 2500$. Now, I ask myself some days that good ol' question, "should I laugh or should I cry."
"Who needs" would be people who want better image quality than 12MP can provide. Been there, done that, sold it four years ago.
I really wanted to like this lens and buy it, but I tried it and found the rendition pretty awful on the D800e compared to just about any Nikon lens.
DPR, what happened? You got some good shots in there. What a great little camera!
adegroot: not the sharpest compact, those honors go to the Sigma DP Merrill series; even though those cameras work their magic best in good light.
"It is a sharpness that appears digital in nature. " Very true. Some of the most artifact-laden detail ever produced. This little Sony has great color, pretty smooth detail and very nice microcontrast. Bravo Sony!
I guess I just don't get the point of an expensive, heavy, bulky 1.4 lens if the bokeh is as hideous as what I'm seeing on these DPR sample shots. The chap with the bridge behind him is a truly ugly, discombobulated looking shot, to single out one.
News flash: The D800e with the $199 Nikon 50g kills your Zeiss or Sigma Art on the D600, D3, 5DIII, etc, at least for resolution.
vscd: DXO should finally unbound old Cameras from the "Elite" Edition. I don't understand why I have to pay 299$ for my 9 years old Canon 5D. :-(
Elite, non merci!
Loving that 4K video!
Art's my hero :^)
Good job NPS.
Reilly Diefenbach: From a camera with tremendous microcontrast, color and detail (a6000) to one that has none of the above costing six times as much. Ain't this a great hobby? :^)
I dislike everything about Zeiss lenses on a Nikon. Focusing is problematic even on a tripod, the rendition "dark glasses" compared to the nano coated Nikons which have open, natural color and microcontrast to the correct degree.
Mm, no. The sensor has everything to do with it. Just ask any D800e owner.
From a camera with tremendous microcontrast, color and detail (a6000) to one that has none of the above costing six times as much. Ain't this a great hobby? :^)
This camera has the magic. Luscious color, outstanding detail and microcontrast, soundly thumping any mft or 16MP DX anything. The kit lens has soft sides and corners at 16mm, boo hoo, but is tacks everywhere else. Check Flickr (search a6000) if you don't like the DPR samples. I'm sold.
waxwaine: "But if it's a DSLR-shaped thing that you need..."
Traduction: If you want to waste 600usd, don´t know what you want as a camera except that is something to hang on you neck to convince yourself and other fools you know photography, run to this cr6p. If you it´s not your case, runaway from this cr6p.
Blows away any Pentax short of the K3, that's for sure :^)
abolit66: another piece of crap. Nikon gets worse every day.
Three blind mice :^)
