RX1 is great but it is a one trick pony for sure.
The new photo ninja converter for Fuji looks quite promising..........
-
I think Canon has a great system and I agree that the ergos are superb but neither would prevent me from moving to Nikon.
In fact the only reason I have not done so already is their QC and lousy...
-
I find that the DR of the SONY sensor is extraordinarily helpful even in the context of "proper" exposures.
I will never again buy another camera that cannot equal the characteristics of my RX1's...
-
"Note that in the RAW file, there is an embedded JPEG. This JPEG is identical to the one processed by the camera."
Most cameras just generate the preview image. Not sure that that image is...
-
Neither is "accurate" to my eye.
Not sure what the value of default settings are in terms of comparison.
The million dollar question is which software can make the most of the SONY file.
I don't...

.......... most people chosing between an 800 and 600.

D800E, RX1R - maybe not.
For critical sharpness with a camera with an AA filter - a presharpened JPG gives you an immediate understanding if you nailed critical focus.
An unrendered raw in...

First of all I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of people hear do not use DXO.
Second of all common sense dictats that a raw file cannot be rendered as quickly as a JPEG that opens...

I would take a hard look at the D800E.
I absolutely love the Sony sensor in my RX1 (not to mention the IQ).
In fact I would take a hard look at a Nikon D610 if it makes an appearence.
-
I am really surprised that you do not shoot in RAW.
I would to get my hands on a raw of that great baracuda shot and see what I could do with it.
All good still.
-
There is no "best" workflow obviously but........
I have a high end mac and there is no way I can render and assess a big stack of raws as quickly as i can JPEGs that have already been tweaked with...

I shoot RAW + JPEGS because my JPEGS have had both sharpening and contrast added in camera.
I can very quickly move through large numbers of JPEGs and separate winners from losers with a quick...

... then it is not a RX100.
It is a difeerent class of camera.
Not better/worse - different.

........ to even consider taking a $3,400 (NON-sealed) piece of equipment into conditions where you might expose it to water.
From my humbe perspective that sounds ridiculous.
Get a V1 AW if you...

The RX1r will spoil you for IQ.........
Be prepared to want to buy Zeiss for the 5D3 !
