AbrasiveReducer: I understand raw capability should made it more attractive to serious users. But wouldn't a serious raw user conclude that to get better quality, one needs to use a camera to take pictures?
I agree with AbrasiveReducer. RAW on the phone is just a marketing. This trick works especially on those, who doesn't know what is RAW.
Fuji guys, stop toying around.Just install a lens mount on the next gen X100SS.
It's just way too big. That repels many potential buyers, I think. Else is great.
It's true, that SONY made cameras to choose the slowest shutter speeds as posible. I see it in my RX-100 too. Sometimes it's so slow, that IS doesn't help. It does annoys me and makes me use shutter priority instead of aperture priority.
All looks good, the only thing phone itself is too big. I wish Nokia would come up with something smaller (like 925) and the same 20 Mp camera. Don't offer me 1020, I don't like it for its bulkyness as well.
Fred Mueller: Nikon did not have the courage to make a really retro FF digital camera ...
That camera would have been much simpler, might not have even needed a menu system - certainly not just "same old, same old" non-tabbed "list", and would have had an incredible optical viewfinder with focus screen options ... and like Nikons of old, it would index the max f-stop of the lenses (manual) when mounted (that is what "AI" means - auto indexing) ... and would have been kitted with the still in catalog 50mm 1.4 AI-s.
The Df = big engine/no shocks/shifter on the column
(yes I had a good/handle look at my LCS)
All you have said means - inovation. When did Nikon implemented something last time? Hmmm...Df is nothing but old parts from nikons warehouse. Except maybe body. But wait, it's the same D600 body, only they skiped smoothing when making it.
_Federico_: I can accept a plastic body even for a camera which should be a digital FM, I can accept a bad, non interchangeable, focusing screen, I can accept to pay for it 3200 € ( in Italy) I can even accept, for this price, 1\4000 sec and exposure meter and shutter from an economic D600. I can accept a bad ergonomics and a single SD memory slot. But I can't accept all these factors AND a really bad AF system such like this one ( yes, I've owned a D600 and I was forced to sell it because it doesn't work with moving subjects and low light environment…too unreliable )
Well there are plenty cameras with good AF systems. If I'd have too much money, I wouldn't care about how fast and reliable AF is in Df, because most of the time I'd use my old MF lenses. So, no split F screen is bigger problem than crappy AF.
Aleo Veuliah: This is a camera that I don't need any review to buy it. The look and the specs are enough for me to buy it without doubts.
Extremely Well Done Nikon.
So why you're here? :)
Digital Suicide: Thanks DPR for the right review. Got your final words. They speak to me in only way: D610 is much clever choice (for me).
What is wrong with people obsessed with huge ISO numbers?I don't need 10'000. It's ridiculous. And why would you offer me canon for my MF Nikkor lenses?
photo perzon: Nikon should make a smaller AFS retro for the rest of us.
Can you mount AI lens on your "Fuji"?
Thanks DPR for the right review. Got your final words. They speak to me in only way: D610 is much clever choice (for me).
Df best DSLR? You got to be kiddin me...
Nothing new. Death, pain and tears. Pictures that shocks you are considered best. As well as the stream of the negativity from the media has became a normal phenomenon. It's all about ratings.Well there are good stuff in the world.
For social photography people use phones.
John Driggers: Oh yeah...the flash doesn't work in silent mode as a criticism???? Why, pray tell, would you want the flash to fire when you are being "stealthy?"
In fact, if the flash would fire, THAT would be a valid criticism.
There are just too many really dumb observations in this review.
Exactly. The same thing with cameras having "clickless" ring. Why on earth would you want to manual focus with ring that has steps...?
Digital Suicide: It doesn't look good. For it's price it' even bad."Pure photography" my *ss...
Well yes, marike6, it does perform better in low light, but very marginally to my eye. Do you really think it is worth that huge extra money comparing to D610 performance? Anyway, I,m sure you shoot much more often at ISO 200 than ISO 6400. Peace :)
It doesn't look good. For it's price it' even bad."Pure photography" my *ss...
Since we are comparing phone versus camera, why don't compare start-up times, focus speed, times between shots and etc. Well.. here's the answer: if you are OK with annoyingly slow camera - 1020 is good for you.
100D in white would be a "genius" move from canon to keep their customers.. :D
Kurt_K: Do we even need silly awards and percentage scoring? I'd be happy with just the pros and cons list and the IQ test results. Pretty easy to make up my own mind from there. Oh, but I guess I'm forgetting that most of the folks here don't want to make up their own mind; they want the camera aficionados to make it up for them.
Pros and Cons list is personal (DPR's) point of view as well. You might find them different.
