rpm40: Why did google have both snapseed and picassa in the first place? I understand they have some different features, but why not just integrate them?
I think with the release of Picasa 4, this has happened to some degree. Perhaps they will now take it to the next level?
Silat Shooter: I like Snapseed for desktop. For P/S images it's fast, easy and gives great results. Bummer news! There are days I don't feel like going through Photoshop, for those occasions Snapseed is terrific.
Picasa 4 now works as good as Snapseed, in my opinion. Perhaps Google figured, having invested in Picasa heavily over the years, and with it now achieving capabilities similar to Snapseed, they decided to kill of the new kid, so as reduce programs of similar capabilities?
Timmbits: I was a little upset when they discontinues igoogle.com ...it brought everything together into the best homepage we had ever seen.
Google used to be a one stop shop for a diversity of tidbits - tools here and there - that made it compelling to use google.
But as google sheds parts and components because of money problems and internal cost-cutting, it is becoming less and less attractive.
The whole was worth far more than the sum of it's parts... and now that they are breaking everything off, the ship is sinking for me.
Time to jump ship - Google has rendered itself useless to me.
And what will you use now to replace the services Google has provided (mostly for free)? A serious question, not snarky, really curious to know. I have "no dog in the fight"...
ravduc: This is terrific news for four third users such as myself that would prefer upgrading with a dslr rather than having to move to a micro four thirds camera.
Agreed! Canon makes nice cameras, Nikon, Sony, and Panasonic have theirs, but to me, nothing *feels* like an Olympus, and no camera I've tried, can re-create Olympus depth and color. Biased? You bet. I own brands other than Olympus, but for that special shoot that needs some soul, I grab my Oly's.
I just received notice of this evening around 9:30 pm on December 23rd. Someone needs to update this, and give us an correct date, so we can take advantage of the offer.
