Fatality: I wouldn't upgrade to 6D not even for $500. To me, the 6D is worth about $1000 MAX.. My 60D is more superior than this camera (which currently sells for $780), not only that it takes EF and EF-S lenses, but it even has a shutter speed of 8000.. pfff This is a major failure from Canon.

Actually there is no diff for 1/4000 and 1/8000. What shot needs 1/8000 and cannot do with 1/4000?

Anastigmat: I have 2 words for the results of this poll: ballot stuffing.

if you think people vote more then once (with multiple accounts) for EM5 then what makes you think that people will not vote more than once for nikon & canon & sony? Respect the decision of others. If one day, others commented that your photo are lousy then your photos are lousy to THEM. As long as in your heart your camera is the best then your camera deserves YOU.

G L: I have a m43 camera and the EM5 is what I would like to have. So I voted for it.

Just one remark: If Nikon had not the D800 and the D600 in the competition they might have won.

But anyway, the EM5 is a camera of which many people think it is a very good compromise between capability, size and prize. It really is an achievement to bring all these features in such a small package. The EM5 deserves this win.

I am a sony supporter... When I see this EM5. I am shocked. So immediately I went to try this EM5. All I can say is that for that size and that price, it deserves to win.

VadymA: DPR, please change the title to "The Most Interesting Camera of 2012", because this is what this poll is really about. I don't have any of the listed cameras but I voted OM-D because to me it was rather a head turned in 2012 and I think it deserved its place fair and square. Is it the Best Camera out there? Probably not. But we are just DPR Readers, not the camera experts. This is Our poll, Our opinion, Our fun way to pick "The Camera of 2012". Those who believe otherwise and come here with angry comments only make fools of themselves.

The word Best is very subjective. Wild life shooter and a wedding photographer has different best in their heart. So whose is best?

"It stands out as the only full frame camera to offer in-body stabilization, an EVF and articulated rear screen." WYSIWYG EVF, throwing away the Hoodman now. Sold my D800 and got an A99, loving it :)

@jmmgarza
I believe the one who produce the perfect photo is the photographer and not the camera.

@Petka
you memtioned that EVF will always have too much lag for precisely timed shots. May I know how much lag are you talking about? Sony is for SONY users only

jmmgarza: I am starting to find your reviews quite tedious. My D800 is perfect.

tedious is because D800 is perfect. Since D800 is perfect then the rest will never be good. The Best camera is always the one in your hand.

Spectro: if the translucent mirror flipped I would be interested.

Translucent mirror to flip where? It is a limitation in the old SLR design thats why the mirror need to flip. else it will be blocking the sensor. So if can dun flip then why you still want to flip?

Mike604: I was really looking forward to Canon's mirror-less camera but after seeing these photos, I am a bit disappointed.

If other camera with the same settings can give better quality then there is conclusion.

What do I know: Wake me up the day EVF gets as good or Better than a good 100% OVF

If you like OVF so much then you should go back to use film. Film is like OVF and Digital is like EVF. So why you wanna use OVF with Digital? Whatever you can say about OVF applies well to the film, whatever you talk about for EVF applies for our DSLR.

Fotogeneticist: Until an EVF has the same refresh rate and dynamic range that matches my eye, it will never replace OVFs for me. What does an EVF give me except for battery drain and shadows you can't see into? And to the poster that said an EVF needs 2MP to out-resolve an OVF, if you out resolve what your eye can see anyways, what good would that do?

when you see the OVF and your photo on the LCD - are they the same? when you see the EVF and your photo on the LCD - they the same? Honestly, the VF that can show the same thing as the Photo should be better as it tells you what you will get before you shoot.

gedoxey: Another reason I enjoy a camera that does not have a moving mirror is a quiet shutter mechanism like is present with the Sony a57 and a77. I assume this will be true for the a99 as well. I was at a wedding the other night and the photographer was shooting away during the ceremony with his Nikon and his shutter noise was annoying even 75' away. When I shoot at a wedding or a formal indoor concert I can take pictures any time I want without disturbing the ceremony or performance. Before using a camera with a traditional moving mirror I had to wait until the music or singing was loud enough to not disturb the performance. I won't use a camera with that noisy mirror slap in these situations. My next purchase will be Nex 6. And maybe I'll make the jump to the FF SLT. Perhaps it won't be too long before even the Sony SLT cameras will be mirrorless too.

gasdive... you lose the PDAF...

This camera is really perfect. not for extreme usage but perfect for my daily shot.

Sony is winning. DSLR are everywhere today and most of the people who holds a DSLR are using kit lens. This is a perfect camera for them.

Still there is one major flaw... it is too expensive.

Fixed-mirror design SLT

How dumb is it? Sony put phase detectors ON SENSOR and put semi-transparent mirror IN FRONT OF IT.
Why not mirrorless then?

this is first time with dual PDAF. we need to try it out.

This is the end.

This is a very good attempt. If you see it as a camera (with a phone feature) then dslr is better but if you see it as a phone (with a camera feature) then it may just be the best.

cgarrard: Ugh, when are manufacturers going to stick a small evf in the upper left corner of one of these enthusiast compacts? (See nikon p60 if you need an idea it can be done). This camera with a compact evf with decent magnification and resolution would jump its way into my bag. No viewfinder, sorry Nikon just not for me.

C

i dun get it... why is VF so important? There is a big screen for you to see behind so why still need a VF?
