Be careful using third party batteries with the VG - it can be fussy about batteries.

Well not quite all Gary. Sony dropped both quick navi and tethered shooting, both present in the a700, from the a77, as well as support for CF cards...still love my a77 though :-). Oh, and with the...

All sorts of reasons but it is generally NOT because Sony cameras are worse - often they are just as good or better then many Nikon or Canon products.
It's a combination of:
(1) tradition and...

yes, the 1700 had tethered shooting I believe and the a77 was supposed to be its replacement but puzzlingly did not feature it...

Yes, already using Eneloops

So, I want to MA my 70-400G1 - or at least check if MA improves the focus accuracy.
Two things concern me:-
1. test bench methods seem to assume indoor testing, but how can you meet the typical...

Check out the Manfrotto 393 "heavy lens support" - it is a poor man's gimbal head and actually very good indeed - it is marketted as a head for monopods but works equally well on tripods.

I'm afraid you will find divided views. Some on here will say the a77 is more or less the perfect camera, some will say it is cr*p at high ISO, some will be more balanced. There is no objective...

The Amazon UK reviews of sensorklear are puzzling - some 5* reviews saying it did the job, some frightening 1* reviews saying that lots of black particles were left on the sensor...I personally...

? Indeed Gary - makes no sense to me...

I own a 16-80 and 17-50 - IMHO both are contrasty, yes. Sony maybe more so, but not a night and day difference.

On a retina iPad all shots look under-exposed, some severely so.

Shot another event today, but used a57 - no problems! So it is a77 specific ....

True, but CZ are not the only high contrast lenses. The Sony 16-50 2.8 is high in contrast, as is the Tammie 17-50 for example. Contrast and resolution can both be important IMHO

It's worth paying extra for constant aperture zooms IMHO but even super zooms these days are pretty good. At the long tele end it also pays to spend more for good lenses.
Your shot does indeed...

Love the Vulcan - fingers crossed I will see it at RIAT in July. Thanks for sharing.
someone else will mention that these are under exposed I imagine and that for aircraft shots you often need at...

Thanks for the info - better get saving for that Metz then - it's pretty expensive here in the UK :-(
any thoughts on whether front curtain shutter affects it?

Just did an event shoot today with my a77 and Sony 56 flash. Even with firmware 1.07 the flash exposure is totally unpredictable for no apparent reason. I had mastered bounce flash and using flash...

My 16mm corners are poor on my 16-50 as well - they only improve at about f8 for me. It's not a great landscape lens IMHO but it may just be my copy ( having said that, David Kilpatrick reported...

It's entirely possible - I have read a few moans in the past about over-sensitive shutter releases on some Sony models but it's perhaps too early to say if it is an issue with the a58. All I have...
