Yes that is true and if the new Sony is as good or even better as the old one (maybe the best of all till now), then the new Sony 70-400 stays maybe even unbeaten.

Because it is known that it is a Sony sensor outsourced by Sony to Toshiba in a long term relationship, probably because of capacity shortness due to the flood twintigjarig years ago.

From what I read in a few sources, it is a Sony developed sensor, produced under license by Toshiba.There is a long term license agreement between the two about sensor manufacturing.
