On challenge Shadows in Nature (6 comments in total)

Ruth, I hope you will define for all contestants the large difference between "shadows" and "reflections." Could save many disagreements....

I have been a member of DPR for several years and early on I voted in many challenges. However, I must disagree with any Challenge host who chooses to disqualify an entry because the owner does not vote. I am now over 85 years old and I do not have the stamina to peruse and evaluate entries. The Host makes too many assumptions about the background of entrants.

My personal congratulations to all who entered this week's "My Best Photo of the Week". If I were King they would all be Number 1. In fact, I get great enjoyment from seeing these entries EVERY week. And, of course, thanks to RuthC for doing such a great job week after week.

Joriarty: *sigh*

Out of the first five entries, I have disqualified all five. Please, folks – pay attention to the challenge description! I ask for photos that are an optical illusion, and I mean this quite precisely.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_illusion

Physical illusions will NOT be accepted. A physical illusion is one whose perception is dependent wholly on the physical structure of the object – i.e. perspective, colour, and the way our brain processes the image do not play a role in the illusion.

I guess the clarity will be shown by the response of the entrants..........

Lotsa Luck with that, as has been said by politicians.........remove perspective, color, and the way our brain processes the image, and there will be few images in the Challenge.

On challenge Drones (4 comments in total)

Would you define "drone"? There are more drones in Nature than man-made. Which is called for in your Challenge?

Chris Page: Is this a late April fools?
Seriously...

Glad we can use PS to get rid of the red eye of the Fiji Fish caught on a Friday and taken with a Fish eye lens!

A perfect example why DPR should become more involved in the operation of the Challenges. Embarrassing. For all of us.

Is not one of the rules "image must be in B/W"?

An unintended but heart-tugging demonstration of what we in the world do to our children, most times beyond our control. They are all so beautiful and so full of potential which will probably never be achieved.......

Ruth: I just wanted to let you know how much pleasure I get from your series "My Best Photo of The Week". I enter frequently, but not really concerned about winning. Just seeing all the talented people out there is a lot of fun. As far as I am concerned, those are the best challenges on DPR, and I hope you can keep them going. I know it must be a lot of work. Thanks.

Host should decide if subject is 'best photo' or 'best zoom' or whatever...........

RuthC: For those who have been waiting for the return of Lext123's 'My best photo of the week', here is my substitute challenge. I wrote to Lext123 about offering this alternative while he is taking a break, but he has not replied....yet.
Ruth

Thank You, RuthC, for carrying on this Challenge idea. It is greatly appreciated.

Speaking of 'cryptic'. I do not believe our challenges should ever be cryptic, especially the subject. There is more than enough "cryptic" in the challenge voting system. I see nothing wrong with the old, standard challenge subject if the host simply requires new photos and new compositions. But, to each his own. I have enough trouble understanding my 'cryptic' wife. I believe I will pass on this one since I am too old to be 'cryptic'. "Old" I understand........

Lots of gulls live on or near freshwater lakes, such as the Great Salt Lake. But what do I know, I live by the sea, so I must be a Sea Guy.........

My Stokes "Field Guide To Birds" does not show any called 'seagulls'.....I assume you mean any of the gulls shown in the guide?

Has anybody noticed how many "winter landscapes" are included here, when the rule specifically states "no winter landscapes"?
