These are the settings I've saved in various modes on the camera to have quick access to different settings without having to go into the menu.
Comments are welcome.

I figured I'd post this in a separate thread for others to see
I found a work around for fixing the AUTO DR problem in all modes and exposure meter bug in manual mode...... use spot metering all...

Okay Joms, will do all this tomorrow. Charging the batteries right now. I tried to take the pictures in a dark room as you requested but it's still limiting it to 30 sec, even though it says...

PR, you're absolutely correct, all I know for sure is that the camera didn't break. I haven't been able to test it to see if the longer shutter speeds actually work yet.
BTW I've been meaning to...

woah I didn't think you could do this, but is there really a way to alter DR? Like, could you somehow incorporate a real, hardware based DR 800 OR 1600?
I already found a work around for fixing the...

Joms, when I say it worked I mean it didn't break the camera LOL I'm going to test it when we actually have a clear sky; as you know, the weather on the east coast has been pretty crummy this...

well I installed what you gave and it seems to have worked :) I just dont know what it will do at higher ISOs.

Thanks Ralph- I was wondering how people with modified webcams (like the Phillips Toucam) or video cameras like the Mallincam do their work? Video astronomy seems to be growing fairly quickly.

Joms is there any way for you to lift the ISO restriction on shutter speed so a 1 min ISO 3200 (for example) exposure could be done?
-
This has become a lively discussion so I thought I would post this here :)
I've read on some of the astroforums that to do stacking in planetary astrophotography, it's best to use the movie mode...

haha so there are going to be two 30 sec shutter speed values now? :P
Joms is there any way to lift the ISO restriction so that I could do, say, 1 min exposures at ISO 3200? If I stack a bunch of...

Joms is there a way to lift the ISO limit so you can do one min exposures all the way up the ISO scale?

Is this what astronomical cameras do? I have a Meade DSI II PRO (monochrome camera so no bayer filter array) and it has no ISO setting, you do RAW imaging (it calls it by a different name but there...

this is what we really need!
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/52272333
set ISO in RAW- makes an ISO 3200 image as clean as an ISO 800 image......
btw dont sell your camera short, when it is...

I really like this idea, I wonder if it can also be implemented for advanced compact cameras:

set ISO in RAW- makes an ISO 3200 image as clean as an ISO...

yes, but they are halving the max shutter speed as you increase the ISO- that's the bad thing. I would rather be able to do 30 sec exposures at ISO 1600 and stack a bunch of them- every time you...

I bet you have some awesome results also, I love globular clusters, and Omega Centauri is the best of them all. And I'd like to see how the FZ200 handles all the color in the Orion nebula. You...

thanks, this seems to be the most versatile camera I can find. Most other superzooms have the silly 30 sec limit to exposures which is halved every time you increase the ISO. I wonder how...

Thanks Joms, what's the difference between this one and the HS20 one you did? Same features, just for the HS50 instead of the HS20?
btw great read right...
