On Nikon D810 Preview preview (1571 comments in total)

Frank_BR: It's amazing that many of the "new old" features of the 2014 Nikon D810 were already introduced in 2012 by Sony on the A99:
• Electronic first-curtain shutter
• 3.2in 1,229k-dot RGBW LCD screen
• Auto ISO available in manual exposure mode
• 1080/60p movie recording
• Uncompressed HDMI output with simultaneous recording to memory card
• Built-in stereo microphone

Consider also that the Sony A99 can record simultaneously to both memory cards, the GPS is built-in (it is optional in the D810) and the LCD is fully articulated (it is fixed in the D810).

Bottom line: Nikon is a company that is years behind Sony in the technological race. While Sony already has years of experience in building mirrorless cameras and is firmly entering the era of 4K video, Nikon is trapped in the DSLR technology, and only now is able to deliver 1080/60p video in its $3k camera.

Oh, I almost forgot to say, the main advantage of the D810 over rival 5D mkr III is the 36MP sensor, which is made by… Sony!

It´s easy, go for Sony.

OseasMillan: In terms of IQ The D5100 it's a great option. I can't see advantanges in IQ from the D7100 to D5100. I'll wait the next generation to consider buy a new body. Meanwhile new lenses is the best option.

Another pic.

Please check the picture at 100% (Large View) and please verify the detail in the face. The 35mm lens offer a very nice detail.

Very nice Shots, the Madelyn picture is amazing. After 2 years with my D5100 I know all the weakness body like extra controls, but the IQ is excellent, I have 3 lenses, I have the kit less 18-55mm, The sigma 18-200mm II, and the nikon 35mm f1.8, and let me tell you, the 95% of the time I use the 35mm, It´s the better cheap lens with an outstanding IQ. Congratulations for your pictures. Im searching an external flash too, right now I have the SB-400 and I like the portable size.

Hi Tactic.
Of course, I'm only speaking in IQ, the other benefits are amazing with D7100, In my case the D5100 is only for family, vacations and basic enthusiast use, no more.

GPW: Whoever at Nikon called this camera the new flagship of DX should be "rolled in broken glass and dipped in vinegar". Nikon Should have stuck to 18mp and cranked out 7-8fps with a larger buffer. THIS IS NOT a camera for fast action sports/wildlife no matter the card used. I am using a Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB@95mbs and I am missing shots that I would normally get with my D300 because of the buffer, IT IS SLOW. The IQ is excellent even at high ISO all the way up to 2500, NOT kidding. If you shoot mostly stills get this camera, I think it can't be beat in IQ at high ISO, in this price range. I am a wildlife photographer and I am very, very disappointed with this camera for action shots. It is going back tomorrow!

Is The buffer the only issue?

Vashistha: capacity of D7100 buffer size or it is similar to Nikon D7000???

Nikon Limit of 6fps ??
(7fps in 1.3x crop mode)

Canon 7D have continuous shooting speed of 7fps and can capture 25 raw/130 JPEG without having any break.

And the D7100 with 6 frames per second and only 6 cotinuos shots in RAW ?

Hello Dyun27, my comment was only about IQ, you have the right, the other camera specs are amazing. D600 it's an amazing D7000 in FF version. I like it.

No, only increase the autonomy.

backupgeek: I would love to get this camera, but I would be upgrading from a D5100. I have a few FX lenses already, but my primary lens is a 10-24 Ultra wide angle. The cost of an equivalent FX lens in addition to the D600, really pushes the price out of my range. Sure I could use my old lens in Crop Mode, but it is only a 10MP crop. Really need some more 3rd party Ultra Wide FX lens options.

I have the D5100 + Nik 35mm f1.8, and let me tell you, I don't see much difference vs full frame like D700. I'm speaking only in IQ.
