Athena28: As a vegan, this sight is horrible for me to see. They are not 'handbags', and should never be farmed for handbags or meat. They are here for their own purposes, not to be exploited by humans. They are magnificent creatures, capable of pain and suffering like you and I, or any other being on this planet. What an awful title, and such disrespect for such a fine animal :-(
Athena28, The title came from the guide on our tour of the "farm". Just like cows, and poultry these creatures are used as a domestic product. The fact that the fashion industry pays $1000AU for a quality skin enables the farm to support the associated park area.I respect your vegan views however this is a comercial business, just like any other.
